Brewer I was just wondering if any others out there have a bell on their scooter? I gave one to my buddy recently when he got a new bike. Traded his Gold Wing in for a Road King. I explained the legend behind it and wished him the best of rides and roads.

The alam will go off if the battery is connected no matter what position the ignition switch is in.. off, on, acc... does not matter the thing is ear peircing. Now if I take the inline fuse out of the alarm power wire, It will only go off if the thumb switch is turned to the run position. Either way the bike will not run. It will turn over but will not start. It did this to me when I first got the bike home and put a new battery on it, I also changed out the battery in the fob and still nothing.. I really cant get the fob to do anything other than make the little red light go off when you push the button. I some how pushed enough buttons and turned the switch off and on enough to get it to start and run. Went out riding and everything.. No issues, then let it sit for a bit and the battery died and now Im back to square one. If anyone has anything that can help me out. Thanks in advance.  less

There are no fluid leaks only air getting in to the system.

I am the not so little old man who only rides his motorcycle to church on Sundays.

Back in January Little Mother broke her wrists and the only excuse I can find to leave her by herself is when I ride to church. Today took a 20 mile detour along the river, some tight turns, no traffic ,and Uly got to show off what Uly does best.  What a wonderful beast.

Have at least another month before Little Mother can be fully functional, will always have some pain and will never have her full strength back in her left hand but she will be satisfied if she has control of her kitchen again.  less

This is one of the few things I have never changed myself.

Are there special tools required to change the wheel bearings?, or can I just knock them out from the inside and tap new ones in with a wood block and rubber mallot?

This weekend on a couple of rides I experienced a strange problem with my front brake...

The front brake pads are about 25% worn, so they are not new but there is still plenty left.

When I was riding all of the sudden I went to use the front brake and it grabbed at the slightest touch, and grabbed hard! (kind of like a brand new set of brakes).  It did this for about 3 or 4 brakings and then went back to its normal operation where I would have to pull it in a bit and they would grab propotionally to the force on the lever.

Then did the same thing a couple more times where the amount of pull on the lever required would vary drastically.

Now my first instinct is to bleed the system, which I will do today.  Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and if there is anything eles I should look at.  less

My baby fired right up!

Here we are a month later when I noticed oil pooled in the transmission pocket directly below the starter. My bike had no leaks prior to this so I suspected my starter install. I checked the primary fluid and yep, that is where it is coming from.

What did I miss? Is there a trick I do not know about? I want to cure this leak, but wanted to ask you guys if I overlooked something in my initial install, or if you knew of any tips or tricks?
    Thanks!

  • Message Hello. I live in Georgia and have been around motorcycles my entire life. My dad was a construction worker and was always working on a motorcycle in the garage. He built himself a couple of customs, and when I was 10 we worked together to build me a mini-chopper. Dad wanted me to join him in construction, and I did for a year or so, but knew it wasn't what I wanted to do. I started working at a local bike shop moving bikes around, and doing oil changes. When I was 21 I worked my way through motorcycle mechanics school, got certified, and became a full on motorcycle mechanic. Worked for a couple of dealers before starting my own shop, which I had to shut down in the end of 2009. Finally opened my own shop again in November 2011.

Well if you went our riding and then let it sit and the battery went dead, sounds like you have something going on but without being able to test it is real hard to say what. When yo got it started for the ride were you able to turn it off and restart it before the battery died.

Jimmyacorn wrote... Lucky wrote... I only have about 60k on them, but it just felt a little rough to me and for $30 it makes me feel better to replace them. Only?  30k has always been tops with me.  The same with clutch cables. Clutch when it tells me so. Motor mounts 25K.  Brakes when I need 'em but no more than 60K when I'll also make a decision about timing chain;  When I've had the $$ I switched to gears. Wonder why HD stopped using gears? 60k sounds reasonable, I have seen good bearings in wheels (especially front wheels) at 100k+.  30k to me is a little early, but like Lucky said for $30 or $40 bucks (which is the most it should cost if the wheel is already off), do it if it makes you feel better.

Az, like Lucky said rebuilding the calipers is a very easy job. One thing to remember is to clean everything real good using brake cleaner (any auto parts store) and use an air gun to blow out all the lines, calipers and master cylinder too. They always have little bits of yuck in them.

At the price of Syn these days you just added 15 to 20 dollars to the oil change. I always run the engine till its hot before I do an oil change - which you should always do anyway - and that should ensure everything has enough oil coat on it to crank the engine for a second or two with the plug out. Plus with syn there isn't as much breakdown so if you add 5 qts change the filter and leave lease than a 1/2 qt in the case should not really be a problem.
