My son, Ron Jr, was in a very bad off-road motorcycle accident on Sunday. He suffered head trauma, 4 fractures to scull, broken neck, broken vertibreas and broken wrist.  The good news I s even with all that there is no neurological damage and he is able to move all limbs, fingers and toes !!!!!  Its going to be a long recovery, but he is still with us, and at this point that is all that really matters.

Please keep Ronnie in your prayers.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone for all of the prayers and positive messages... they are working.

Even more good news!  No that he is out of the woods as far as any perminant brain damage goes, they said with proper care all the rest could heal at home just as well as in the hospital.  So Ronnie is now home (well at our house for a while) where we have a mini-hospital room set up for him.  Since I work from home I can care for him and have a home health person come in just to check his vitals and such.

He is also going to get his wrist surgery this week and hopefully get most of the use of his right hand back.

Update on my son... Yesterday Ronnie had surgery on his wrist which was very badly broken and dislocated in the accident. The surgery went well. They had to put a temporary metal plate from his forearm to the base of his middle finger. The plate will be removed in about 3 months and then they say after about another 3 to 6 months of PT he should regain about 60-75% range of motion in the wrist. He had a follow-up neuro exam and his brain is fine and the skull fractures are healing great. He still has no hearing in his right ear, however he can hear a little better out of the left ear now (I have gone from yelling to speaking loud :-) ). It will be several weeks before we know the final prognosis on that ear as well as the sight in his right eye. Overall considering the severity of the injuries, I am very happy with how he is coming along. My pain and fear has moved to joy and hope as his progress continues.

Again I want to thank everyone for all of the Prayers and Positive Messages... They are working!!!

Again I want to thank everyone for the prayers and positive thoughts - they continue to work.

Considering the extent of the initial injuries, my son is doing GREAT.  He is up and about, able to take care of himself and back to work in a limited capicity.

It is definate that he will never regain the hearing in his right ear, however the hearing in his left ear has improved a lot - probably to around 60% and he will wait a while longer to see if it comes back more or if he will get a hearing aid.  Still having slight issues with his eyes - he can see out of both however when he uses both he sees double image.  He will be seeing a specialist for that in a couple of weeks. The arm and wrist are pretty much the same and still a copuple months before he gets the metal out to see how much he can use it.

Lucky I am happy to hear he is improving and I hope he sticks to his PT.A friend I knew who survived a nasty car wreck said the PT was tough yet worth it as they regained nearly all range of motion.Yet had to keep some plates in hip/leg & arm to secure the bones.

My brother who survived a bout w/meningitis, comatose for a week, had to do physical therapy for 6 mo's just to regain muscle function/memory.This was back in the early 80's.He missed nearly an entire year of school.Hope it keeps getting better over time, just like my brother took quite a while, yet worth it.
