Support Independent Motorcycle Shops

  • How many times have you told yourself that you were going to stop at the little independent motorcycle shop but never have yet? If you’re that guy or gal, I’d like to suggest that you make that stop, you might be surprised with what you find.

Independent motorcycle shops may be the best kept secret but for all the wrong reasons. There is a false perception amongst a vast majority of riders that the dealership is the only place qualified to work on their motorcycle but this could not be further from the truth. Most every independent motorcycle shop has a certified mechanic working for them and most likely has as many or more years wrenching than most of the people working the service department at the dealership. Not bound by many of the restrictions of the various dealerships, independent motorcycle shops are more likely to give you an honest assessment of your problem and is likely able to make your repairs much more cost effectively. And much like our BikerCrap.com web site, their reputation can make or break them as well so they have no choice but to put out the highest quality work with each and every job.

    Every Bit of Support Helps
BikerCrap.com, as a small business itself, we understand the importance of supporting other small businesses. You don’t have to have your bike serviced or repaired in order to support local independent motorcycle shops, your support can be something as simple as purchasing your consumables, such as oil and filters from them. Chances are they will have a much better selection to choose from than just the dealership branded items and they will be priced competitive so as to gain your business. They can really use your support as for many of the smaller shops it is a struggle from month to month just to get the bills paid much less turn a profit.

A Great Source of Stock Parts
I you ever find yourself looking for an OEM replacement part for your bike, you might really be missing the boat if you do not check with the independent motorcycle shops in your area especially those that do a lot of customization work. Most of these shops have accumulated a pile of nearly new parts that they have taken off of bikes they have customized and are more than happy to sell them at bargain basement prices. At the very least, take a few minutes to call around to the local independent motorcycle shops to see if they have what you are looking for. We’ve done it many times and have saved hundreds of dollars doing so.

Through our travels while out marketing the BikerCrap.com web site, we visited many an independent motorcycle shop and, with very few exceptions, have found each visit to be very pleasant. I would recommend to anyone to do the same, there is really nothing to lose and everything to gain. Chances are the proprietors of these shops will welcome you with open arms and immediately begin to work on earning your trust even if you are just stopping by to check things out, they know you have many choices and will do anything in their power to earn your business.

  • BikerCrap I honestly do try as much as possible to use independent shops. As I do most of my own maintenance, most of my reason for going to the bike shop is to pick up consumables, oil, filters etc, so I try as best I can to hit up one of the mom and pops. ...  more
