Do you use the kill (on/off) switch and then turn off the ignition on the dash? I don't.
                             OR
Do you NOT use the kill switch but simply turn off the ignition on the dash? I do.

Using the kill switch and the ignition switch to turn off the bike is kind of a jinx thing for me.  I believe it is unnecessary wear on the kill switch, decreasing the life expectancy.  And since I have to turn off the ignition on the dash anyway there's no need to mess with the kill switch.  And, the ignition switch is a helluva lot easier to fix/replace than the kill switch.

On my shovel head?  Same scenario except that like Aquadave, I shut off the gas.  less

If you were taking a trip on your bike and could only listen to one band who would it be?  My choice; AC/DC.

When I turn off the bike I automatically turn off the gas petcock. The key is right there and it's a natural movement for me. Is that strange? Little do they know I also use a non-vented gas cap. you have to unscrew it a little to allow it to vent. I tell you this I don't worry about leaving the key in it. you won't get far if you try to steal it

Snap it into neutral, turn the key off. (after reaching for the non-existent petcock......the ONLY drawback to EFI LOL) I never leave it in gear, or use the kill switch. Both toss backs from many years of running a chopper with no neutral light, and no kill switch.

Thanks for the welcome guys! Yeah.....planning on taking advantage of every day! This June I have planned a 1000 mile in a day Iron Butt ride! (yup....goofy enough to tour on a Sporty! LOL) Hey, no worries about you southern boys and your warm weather.......by mid summer you will have tires melding off your bikes as your ride! LOL....but we COULD use some of that heat up here.....next week it will not get above 0 here.

in the topic is this weird in the forum Biker Chat
Before "vented" gas tanks, you had to turn off the gas to keep it from flooding the carb bowls if the float stuck. Once the tanks were vented it prevented it, but us old coots just kept turning off the petcocks. NOW, they took away the petcocks on the EFIs and I STILL reach for it every time. Kind of sucks when bikes advance and the brain does now. ;)
