Ain't important...as long as it's SAFE. I'm a bit too old now to have to worry 'bout this 'n that.  I been ridin' close to 35 yrs, and my bike of choice is still a Harley-Davidson SPORTSTER.  I fit them, and they...fit me.  And here in Jax, that barterin' you talk about and know, up yonder?  Is non-existent, here in the SOUTH.  It's dog-eat-dog down here, Brother. Sad to say.  Not sayin' a Brother won't STOP for another on the road...  But therein, lies the rub,  and one that's always been my curse.  I'm NOT a "BROTHER"...I'm a Mother. Feel me? (spellin' notwithstanding)  And I've been a ridin' "baby", since before most of the rider's today...were babies.  When a LONE ridin' Momma, was tokened, a "Road Whore".  Things are diff'rnt, and that's all good.  And I'm...    less

UFC Women's Champ Rhonda Rousey, one of coaches,  picked up a fallen Harley Davidson with proper technique and pretty good form after being shown how on last night's Ultimate Fighter show. If you didn't know how to do it, it was and is worth seeing.  less

This term basically means: Paying Attention to what is going on around you by scanning the environment, sensing danger, challenges and opportunities while maintaining the ability to conduct normal activities. This world is becoming more dangerous every day, and while some don't like the throught of having guns around then in order to provent the need for a gun one must learn the art of Situational Awareness. In 2012 421,000 drivers were injured due to distractions, 3,328 were killed. Here are the 5 levels of Situational Awareness while driving" (1) Tuned Out: Daydreaming, texting etc (2) Relaxed Awareness: Your pretty much aware what is happing around you (3) Focused Awareness: Driving in a rain storm in heavy traffic (4) High Alert: Things are going on very quickly, your having an adrenaline rush (5)...    less

    • Jimmyacorn I have to go with EW on this. There's nothing wrong with you. There's everything wrong with wasting a good day's ride in a bar. Labels? Motorcyclist? Biker? Enthusiast? It's all BS!!!!

And I also agree with you and Jimmyacron about labels but I like to sometimes see how people label me. Usually gives me great insight into their mindset… And yes I love to ride and the Cannonball would be a great adventure, I would say adventure of a life time but I have used those words before and found you never know what life will bring… ; D

For the rest of it, I agree a good riding day spent wasted in a bar seems like a real crime. As to who is the better example of a real motorcyclist is anyone's guess ! I call myself a motorcycle enthusiast & leave it at that. haha
Some times people don't have a clue when it comes to whats really worth anything in this life let alone how to behave around others.Once liquor becomes involved common sense is the first thing out the door. You showed restraint by not raising to the bait, that lady was probably looking for some body to hassle.

    • RevBigJohn Riding is what being a biker is all about, over the years I've ridden with a bunch of different folks of every type.
I have a very short list of those I prefer to ride with, and so do they.

Big rev: Yep their are few I prefer to ride with and this bunch will never go on that list. Took me three days to quit being pissed off at Wooly for the wasted day. That bunch is on my wave as I go past the bar list. Not saying how many fingers I will use. ; D  less

I'm on my 4th Sportster since 1973....love 'em! I've had a 900, 2 1000's and now a 1200,but, if you are planning to ride across country, as I am, I suggest going larger. I do love my Piglets, but my kidneys, lowerback, ass, spine, and every other piece of my body would not be forgiving if I did not use a larger cruiser....after-all, I'm not in my first set of 20's anymore....3rd set does not recover so quickly! Retirement next week and then the search for my FX or FL for my dream vacation! Ride to Live, Live to Ride!

Good article Dragon. If I may add a few.....after 22 yrs as a Paratrooper, in Special Operations, and as a Survival Instructor, being aware of my surroundings is second nature. My wife is always amazed at the things I bring up when we're out and about. I do not suggest living in a constant state of paranoia, but vigilance is a key factor of being safe. When driving, constantly checking your mirrors, your left and right, and making a mental note of those around you could play a key factor in the out-come of your day. Ladies, when parking at a mall or large lot stay alert as to whom or what you are parking next to. Never park next to a van on the sliding door side. Watch people in crowds, especially someone who is constantly searching about, stopping often and looking about, bulky clothing , carrying a bag....watch if they suddenly deposit a bag or parcel and leave it hurriedly. Unfortunately, the world we now live in is a very dangerous place....your imagination is the key to your survival. Stay alert, stay alive.....
