    Hello,

I am working on a personal project trying to build a digital motorcycle speedometer and am reaching out to various forums hoping to get a few of my questions answered. I appreciate any help and thanks for you time!

Do most or all modern bikes directly feed the instrument display (speedometer, tachometer, current gear, etc.) from the CAN bus?  If so, I am assuming each bike manufacture has its own proprietary CAN messages for the instrument display? I have heard that most bikes have OBD with either standard OBD plugs or a custom plugs and that only Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Royal Infield use proprietary non-OBD interfaces for diagnostics? If this is true, why are there no “universal speedometers” that connect to OBD ports for motorcycles?  less
