Jimmyacorn I have to go with EW on this. There's nothing wrong with you. There's everything wrong with wasting a good day's ride in a bar. Labels? Motorcyclist? Biker? Enthusiast? It's all BS!!!!

For the rest of it, I agree a good riding day spent wasted in a bar seems like a real crime. As to who is the better example of a real motorcyclist is anyone's guess ! I call myself a motorcycle enthusiast & leave it at that. haha
Some times people don't have a clue when it comes to whats really worth anything in this life let alone how to behave around others.Once liquor becomes involved common sense is the first thing out the door. You showed restraint by not raising to the bait, that lady was probably looking for some body to hassle.

RevBigJohn Riding is what being a biker is all about, over the years I've ridden with a bunch of different folks of every type.
I have a very short list of those I prefer to ride with, and so do they.

Getting Your Motorcycle Ready For Winter

Yep, winter is almost here (even though it seems like summer just got here), and for a lot of riders that means the bike is going to be sitting idle for a few months. To ensure your motorcycle is ready for that first spring ride when you are, you will want to take a little time to prepare it to sit quietly in the garage.

    The Gas

There is a really good chance that just leaving the gas in your tank as is, your bike will still start in the spring after a few months of storage. However the gas may not be all that good, and could cause poor performance or even foul out your spark plugs requiring them to be replaced. Be taking a couple of precautionary steps you can help ensure your gas is ready to go when your are next spring.
Fill your Gas tank to the top. The less air in your tank, the less likely that water will condense inside the tank (a result of falling and/or fluctuating temperatures) and get in your gas. You also will want to...    less

Harley-Davidson is recalling more than 105,000 Touring motorcycles from the 2014 model year
According to NHTSA, 105,746 Touring models from the 2014 year are being recalled because a component in the clutch master cylinder may fail, reducing the pressure available to keep the clutch disengaged. If the clutch does not remain disengaged, the motorcycle may creep forward while the rider intends to be stopped, increasing the risk of a crash.  less

So far multiple people say camp or stay outside of town (deadwood). I'll be riding solo from NorCal or with 1-3 others. Planning on staying in Elko then Rock Springs each way... 2 days to get there two days home. I'm more interested in the ride and Rushmore, Crazy horse, etc. than down town.

Any lodging suggestions? One suggestion was to go the week before to avoid the crowds. I've been riding for 12 years but sounds like a ton of rookies show up and can be more dangerous than cagers...  Thanks in advance.  less

When storing your bike for a long period pf time, be careful of the fuel stabilizer you use. Recently I had my fuel filter changed in my tank, as the mechanic pulled it out, there was this green slime all covering the filter. He wanted to know if I used a stabilizer? I said I use STA-BIL. However it was the older version I was using. Now they have one specifically for gas with alchohol. Make sure you all read the fine print... Now, I my not use any at all. This new gas doesn't turn to turpentine like it used too, now it just "phases", meaning the alcohol will separate from the gas and the alcohol will go to the bottom. Gas that sits for over two months, this can happen...So, if your in an area that sells gas w/ 10% alcohol, beware

What I don't understand is...They have been using Hyd. clutches over the last few years on CVO Ultra,s with no problem, now they have issues. Personally, Like some one else said, Bean counters are in charge and buying cheaper grade of parts and they are'nt working. You get what you pay for... For them it's all about dollare and cents even though they may have no sence...

If your just changing mufflers, you need not to do anything but put them on. If your opening the air box or changing the head pipes you'll need a download or a tuner. I prefer the head pipes from Vance and Hines (X pipes) and mufflers, when you buy their system, you tell them the yr, mk, model and size of engine, they configure the tuner to go with their pipes and mufflers for your bike. It's all plug and play from there. Works great...

Ya know, I wouldn't think twice for dying for my country. But as I was getting a trip ready for fall to see some the natural beauty of our National Parks and to pay respect to the men and women at the Battlefields, my wife stopped me in my tracks... She said, "Honey, all the Nat'l parks and battlefields are closed due to the gov't being closed. Are you kidding me? Now? When I just heard the Gov't is losing over 72 million dollars a day due to the closings of OUR PARKS & BATTLEFIELDS! What is this country coming to? Damn greedy bastards! This is my country! my land! and I can't even enjoy it...WTF!!!!

in the topic The year of the liquid cooled big twin? in the forum Harley Davidson
Remember! Synthetics work great in most engine applications where there are no roller bearings. Harley's use these bearings in a few places. Because there is no preload on this type of bearing, the synthetic has actually worked too good and makes the bearing skate and not roll... Henceforth, issues after so many miles on the synthetic fluids in Harley engines.

I've tested the twin cooled and seems to have more torq and whatevfer type of cams they went to also revs up faster then the 103 ci I have. All in all the new 14 twinn cooled seems be the ticket. There only cooling down the exhaust valves so they can run them leaner, which makes the run hotter. Only time will tell on the H2O side of things. Can't seem to find what cam they are using though. I've had both the Ultra Classic and now a Road Glide Ultra. My wife and I put an avg. of 20,000 per yr. travelling across our beautiful country. I personally like the fixed fairing because it seems to give you better protection against the wind and elements. However, the "dressers" all are a great ride and have all the ammentities you should need for travelling around, weather it be for long distance or just a put to the local pub. I couldn't ride anything without bags and a windshield, We're spoiled...Victory makes a cross country which I hear is really good. Then there's the Honda Goldwing, the Cadillac of touring bikes, I've had three of them. An 04, 88 and 2010. The wife still prefers the Harleys, and you know what they say; An unhappy passenger makes for a long day...

Well Lucky? I truly believe Harley has many changes on the drawing board but until now they had really no one pushing them to make the changes. "if it ain't broke, don't fix it mentality". Now, due to Indian and Victory, their listening to the riders of all bikes and hearing what they need to do to make a comfortable and efficient motorcycle, not that it may be any better.
