well, you can see how close this suburb is to the city. this is on the western north side of town loking back to the south east.
usually a very expensive suburb....

I just read that over 2 million sq kilometers are hit by flooding in Australia, my whole country is 70,000 sq K...hard to imagine that kind of disaster..mind yourself Boof

update to our overseas mates! we have seen nothing but heat and sunshine all day today, no rain. the river is still rising (not that close to us) we are still high and dry. there are 12 dead 61 missing and 3.6k people in evac centres so far. estimated further 20k houses to be affected before the worst is over. people are still sight seeing and being nuisances in the city ( iphone and facebook youtube etc) and the police are getting more annoyed at them.
the river and king tide have met for today, and the levels are on the up. then again tomorrow at 4am we will have another high tide, the worst one comeing tomorrow afternoon. THEN, we think, we can all "see" the damage". IF there is no fruther rain further west/north...

more than several flooded / evicted and re-habited towns fruther north in the outback and on the coast are now getting flooded today for the 2nd and as much as 5th time in 2 weeks.

how much more our SUNSHINE state can take, is anyones guess. but everyone has had enough of this as it is.

so worry less for us in particular, but we do appreciate your thoughts and prayers and best wishes and cheers.

we are constantly trying to register as volunteers to help in the clean up, as yet the lines and centres are either shut down for safety, or are so busy arranging volunteers we cant get through just now.

it is in the coming days, that we think we can best help, if it is required, removing rubbish, cleaning soil, mud, other peoples furniture, debris, trees, grasses and god knows what else out of peoples houses.

so, yes things are diabolical for our states capital, the airport is open, the buses are stopped, the circulatory roads and motorways through and around the city are flooded, all bridges OVER the brisbane river are open currently, alot of city and riverside roads are inundated. and some 1200 or more suburbian streets are flooded.
72 suburbs are flood affected ( flooded or cut off) as of now.

we are watching two local news channels all the time, and also our best source we have found is the queensland police site on facebook (can you believe that ?)

we have seen millions in assets float or tumble down the river, including barges, houseboats, a restaurant or two, and especially unmanned jetski's, yacht's and speedboats and luxury fishing boats. at least they are unmanned.

so for now, we sit and watch and stay out of harm, and the way of people who need the help, and then, we can hopefully help these poor buggers get dry and clean and home.
