probably sounds strange coming fron an Irishman, but just outside Chicago, Woodstock HD, they are a big dealership and have shitloads of gear, I always bring my own bucket but my wife buys as she go's and she got a fine low profile one there, its easy to get to by the suburban train,tram,...whatever the hell they call it over there.....

I am not sure when you are planning on being there, but another option would be to hit one of the swap meets and pick up an inexpensive or even used helmet..  There always seems to be plenty of swap meets on the weekend around Chicago.  Here is a list of the ones we have so far... Plus going to one of the swap meets could be fun, and since Illinios has no helmet requirement you would be able to get to the swap meet on the bike with no helmet so you can buy one!!!
