Back when I was kid, motorcycles seemed to be everywhere. Everyone had one someplace. Used to go on trips with my mom, into the city and watch all the cops zooming around on funny looking bikes, well they had 2 wheels but the cops dressed in black and had black leather hats...and these goggle things over their eyes..but these bikes that they kinda step through to get on rather than toss a leg over...it wasn't till we went out of town that I saw cops on real motorcycles...I later found out the city cops rode Vespas and Lambrettas...and it was the Highway Patrol or STP that rode the triumph's and assorted other british stuff. Including old boxer BMW's.
I started to get inklings that one day I would ride a motorcycle, cause i used to watch all these cops zooming around and they never seemed to stop in traffic much. I'd go away on holidays (vacation) with the grandparents...cause my mom worked. My grandad used to be a government bus driver and always had his work hat, posed on the back parcel shelf..never could work out why, until one day a motorcop pulled us up...as he walked up behind our car he looked in and saw the hat...he also glanced at me...of course i dived under the car blanket and kept my ears open..Seems that he had been watching ol Bill driving and didn't like the way he did things , He knew what the hat was, looked like a cops hat but was the wrong colour, dark blue instaed of being black..He let the old bugger off with a warning...the warning musta went in one ear and straight out the other, cause as soon as he left my old grandad took off like a scalded cat once more.
So life kinda just rolled day in day out for another 10 years...or so...I never sat on the back of a bike, and I used to sit and watch my cousins pull apart their BSA 125's every other weekend....the 1970's hit with a bang...and I was getting older I was into double digits by then. So i knew everything....Honda fours starting coming out...and that seemed to be the bike everyone wanted...even the cops. K1 750 fours..No one had ever seen or heard anything like them...big and fast. Sure i had seen 1000cc Harleys...but they were antiques compared to these Japanese rockets... alloy this and that..instead of iron...they looked trick too...The cops had black ones with batwing fairings....everyone else had normal ones with no fairing...even the bikies had em....cont.
