  •

Although there were still almost 41,000 motorcycles stolen in 2019 motorcycle theft in the US has dropped 12% from 2016 to 2019, according to the National Insurance Crime Bureau.  Many industry experts believe this four-year drop in motorcycle theft can be partially attributed to most newer motorcycles being equipped with more sophisticated security systems making amateur motorcycle theft much harder.

    Motorcycle Theft by Year:

    2016 - 46,467

    2017 - 44,268

    2018 - 41,674

    2019 - 40,380

    Texas: 3,165

    New York: 1,573

    N Carolina: 1,506

    Missouri: 1,349

    Kawasaki: 4,641

Of the 40,830 motorcycles stolen in 2019, 18,857 (46%) were recovered.

Even though motorcycle thefts are on the decline and motorcycle security systems are becoming more sophisticated, motorcycle owners should continue to take steps to prevent motorcycles theft.
