Should Texting and Driving Receive the Same Punishment As Drinking and Driving?

  • I have been a motorcycle lawyer for many years and what I have noticed the last few years are the increased calls from motorcyclists that have been injured or killed in a motorcycle accident due to someone being on their cell phone texting.  It is more common in my office then motorcyclists that have been hurt or killed due to drinking and driving.  I started to watch other drivers while I was in traffic to see how many people were on their phones and the number of people who do it is staggering.

Utah has changed their laws to reflect this increase in texting and driving deaths - Utah has the stiffest penalties for texting and driving.

What do you think?  Should texting be as punishable as a drinking and driving offence?

  • satyr180 If you cause a death while texting or drinking the person is still just as dead. It is the ONLY way to get anyone to take the law seriously.
