This is where General Lee surrendered the Army of Northern Virginia...in 1865, after being under seige for 9 months, Richmond and Petersburg fell and the withdrawal was a running fight from Amelia C.H to Appomattox. His men were hungry, barefoot and throwing rocks at the north but were still willing to fight with him. He negotiated agreeable terms and relinquished.
