news article:A woman was killed and a man was seriously injured Sunday afternoon in a motorcycle crash deep in the Mount Hood National Forest, south of Estacada.

Beverly Singleton, 50, of Oregon City was pronounced dead after emergency responders failed to revive her.

Meanwhile, Harry Bronson Blattner, 57, of Oregon City remained in serious condition today at OHSU Hospital, where he was taken by helicopter ambulance.

Sgt. James Rhodes, Clackamas County Sheriff's Office spokesman, said a motorist came upon the scene of the motorcycle crash shortly after 1 p.m. on U.S. Forest Service Road 46, about 27 miles south of the Ripplebrook Ranger Station, two miles north of the Marion County line. Though cellphone service was spotty, the motorist was able to connect with emergency dispatchers.

A fire crew fighting the nearby Mother Lode Fire responded, using an automated external defibrillator and administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation in an attempt to revive Singleton, who had been riding as a passenger on a motorcycle Blattner was operating. However, Singleton did not respond and was declared dead at the scene.

Blattner was taken by ambulance to the Ripplebrook Ranger Station, where a Lifeflight helicopter ambulance landed to pick him up.
