i have 06 heritage softail. today for the first time it sputtered. like not get enough gas. when i got up to 55 it seemed fine. when i was able to say something to hubby he said unscrew gas cap. it did sputter again later on just not as bad.  when we got home  he said vapor lock. i disagree with him. he said because of heat today. it was only 80 out. any thoughts?

Try a new gas cap, it may not be venting right.

Vapor lock is a possibility but not high on my list. So many things today that can cause this. Eliminate the easy things first then to the more difficult. Carb or Injected (prob injected)? When you say sputter, do you mean misfiring or was it coughing back through the intake?

Vapor lock is not high on my list, i don't screw cap tight till it clicks. maybe not sputtering like more of a cough, a hesitation maybe. i am going to take my air clearner off and clean that. in just a bit.

you need to close the cap till it clicks... that's lifts the vents in the cap
