Do Bike Helmets Prevent Serious Injury In A Motorcycle Accident

    The Michigan Motorcycle accident attorneys would like to raise awareness that two months ago Governor Rick Snyder repealed the law that required all motorcyclists in Michigan to wear helmets. Since repealing this law, making wearing a helmet optional, there have been 719 motorcyclists and their passengers involved in accidents from April 12th, 2012 until June 17th, 2012. Of the 654 cases in which it was documented whether or not the biker(s) were wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, 129 bikers were not and 525 bikers were. 24.8% of the riders not wearing a helmet sustained an incapacitating injury while only 16.2% of the riders wearing a helmet sustained an incapacitating injury. In addition, 4.7% of riders without a helmet died compared to the 1.5% of riders who died while wearing a helmet.

  • Jimmyacorn I think it's about time. I like 'freedom of choice'. I have always been amazed that Michigan, of all places, still denied the freedom of choice.
