  • We had stopped for fuel and a coffee. Pearl pulls us off the road every 120 miles which on this day was a blessing. Spyder and I were on our way back from D.C., it was raining and the roads were a mess. Plus that rigid was wearing a bit thin on my tailfeathers after the prior 2100 miles. As always I plucked the cell phone out of the pocket and checked messages.Message on the voice mail said "EMERGENCY YOU HAVE TO GET BACK HOME NOW!"  The next one was from the alien sobbing so hard I couldnt understand her words.I tried to call back but there was no answer on any of the phones at home. Spyder then tried the neighbors he knew.We finally reached the one who "knows all" and he agreed to go over and check the Chicken Ranch then call us back.We waited for 45 minutes and still no call. Tried to call him back with no answer. Really worried now Spyder fires up Pearl and we hit the road. It was 547 miles left to cover before reaching home.Pouring rain, construction, soaked leathers dragging down our shoulders off we flew. And I do mean we flew.I knew by the feel under me that Spyder had the old gal wide open. The rain stung my face. I couldnt see but managed to get my bandana off and reach around to wipe Spyders glasses every few minutes. We hit the construction and never missed a beat. He was determined to GET HOME and when Spyder sets his mind to it God help anything in his way.Manuvering that rigid V tech chopper isnt easy on a good day, but this day he handled her like a trick horse in a carnival.Something was wrong with the kids! No prisoners taken on this ride.....I felt him lean against me and I answered him with a squeeze of my legs. I was okay, lets ride!We dodged barrels and cages that slammed on breaks with each crack of thunder. Hit oil that sprayed up with the ground mist and clung to the little vision the storm had allowed.Couldnt catch our breath the wind was hitting so hard and dodged the big rigs massive waves.People in cages shook their heads as we blew by them. Im sure they were thinking that we were insane. What we were is what we always have been. Two on the scoot...one in the wind!
