  Indian recalls 7,611 motorcycles to fix problem with rear brake assembly

  
  

  WASHINGTON, D.C. - Indian Motorcycle Co. is recalling certain 7,611 motorcycles from the 2015 and 2016 model years to replace the rear brake master cylinder piston assembly.

  
  

  Affected are 2015-16 Chief Classic, Chief Vintage, Chieftain and Roadmaster motorcycles, and 2016 Dark Horse models, all manufactured from Jan. 2 to Oct. 23. Due to the problem with the existing rear brake master cylinder, the motorcycles may experience a reduction in, or complete loss of, rear brake power, NHTSA announced.

  
  

  "We recently discovered that our supplier provided a portion of the rear brake master cylinder that does not meet Indian Motorcycle quality standards," the OEM told owners. "Indian Motorcycle dealers will replace the rear brake master cylinder piston on all motorcycles that could potentially be affected by this issue."

  
  

  The recall (NHTSA Campaign No. 15V721000) is expected to begin Nov. 13. Indian said service parts will be available for dealers to order immediately.
