ABATE Of Wisconsin call to action

  •

Senators Feyen & Ringhand; Representatives Steineke & Doyle are circulating a bill draft for support that would allow gas station owners to havepumps with only one nozzle to dispense all blends of fuel up to and including E15 , as long as they have one pump dedicated to a fuel blend less that E15. Please reach out to your State Assembly and Senate Representatives and ask them to oppose LRB 2170/P1.

Tell them that you oppose this bill draft because you feel  that; "requiring only one pump of E10 or less will put a burden on motorcyclists and other users, and may force a consumer to break the law and potentially void the warranty on their vehicles" .

Below is language stating our position that will be sent to the bill authors as well as to Leadership of the Senate and the Assembly.  Please make the call today as the "sign-on" period ends on August 7th.

ABATE of Wisconsin strongly opposes LRB 2170/P1, gasoline-ethanol fuel blend devices. As a representative of motorcyclists across the state, ABATE of Wisconsin feels that requiring only one pump of E10 or less will put a burden on motorcyclists and other users, and .
The Federal Environmental Protection Agency has ruled that using a fuel blend higher than E10 in a motorcycle is illegal, and manufacturers warn that the use of higher ethanol fuel blends will void the manufacturers warranty. This bill draft will put motorcyclists and other users at risk of damage by being forced to use a blended fuel pump that may not provide the fuel that the consumer is paying for. Some motorcycle fuel tanks are not large enough to meet the 4-gallon minimum recommendation. Only allowing a consumer one option is an unrealistic burden to motorcycle, older autos, boat and small engine owners since there is no other option at that station should the lower blend pump be out of order. A consumer should be guaranteed that they are getting the product that are purchasing at a fuel pump. If a small engine owner is filling a 1-gallon gas can for their small engine products, they should get the full amount of the product that they chose. Without the Federal Government testing to see the long-term effects of using higher blends of fuel on these engines, the difference between buying a zero-ethanol blend and E15 could result in catastrophic engine failure and a voided warranty.
