A motorcyclist was seriously injured in the Sept. 29 crash. A motorist was sentenced to state prison on Thursday for driving on a suspended license when he struck a motorcyclist and fled the scene in Erie in September. Paris A. Bishop, 35, received one year and three months to two years and six months in prison from Erie County Judge Daniel Brabender. The sentence was in the standard range of state sentencing guidelines and included three years of probation. He is eligible for the state’s Recidivism Risk Reduction Incentive program, which could reduce his minimum sentence to 11 months and seven days. The Sept. 29 crash was Bishop’s eighth time being caught driving on a suspended or revoked driver’s license, Brabender noted. “It was a terrible accident,” Bishop said. “I knew I wasn’t supposed to be driving.” The driver of the motorcycle, Adam Semrau, was seriously injured in the crash. He said in court that he suffered a dislocated hip, significant injuries to his right heel and a broken right elbow that has required six surgeries. “I have a hard time leaving my own house out of my own power,” said Semrau, who appeared before Brabender on crutches. Bishop pleaded guilty Nov. 29 to a third-degree felony count of accidents involving death or personal injury while not properly licensed and to summary counts of duty to give information and render aid, driving without insurance and driving under suspension. Erie police said Bishop was driving a blue 2005 Cadillac out of a Country Fair gas station parking lot at 26th and State Streets when he turned in front of Semrau, who was traveling north on State Street. Semrau was thrown from the motorcycle, a Harley-Davidson Sportster, according to police. Bishop fled north on State Street and was eventually found with his vehicle behind a house in the 300 block of East 22nd Street, police said.
