He held the position of Secretary of State of Foreign Affairs and War from 1750 until 1756 and Secretary of State of Internal Affairs of the Kingdom from 1750 until 1777. Born May 13th 1699 he was almost 83 when he died on May 8th 1782. He was actually responsible for abolishing slavery in Portugal and the Portuguese colonies in India in the mid 1700s.
