Your fastest ride on rubber tire's?

  • February 6, 2010 1:27 AM PST
Believe it or not many folks never see 100 mph in their life time on rubber tires, what's the fastest you been on Earth and what was it?

I bought a new ElCamino in 73 for $4200.00, 454 4speed, some years later put a 427 435 hp Vette motor in it, had a 323 gear. The calculated top end I did was 145 mph, 7 grand in high gear, did that quite easy.

Had Two Honda Blackbirds some years back, they was the first 200 mph bike sold in the U.S. came out in 1997 soon followed by the Busa. I changed the whole exhaust system on it and loved top end with my pals here. It was very hard to focus on the digital speedometer laying down on the tank behind the windscreen running 6th gear at the redline. One time I did focus and it was scary taking my eye's off the road for the few seconds it took to see it.........

What's the fastest you been and did you need a new pair of britches after?...........

Back in the day........ had a 1970 Dodge Challenger with a built up 383. Hit 175 MPH before changing out the rear end gears. On a bike.............. 130 MPH. Both in my "Younger" years. Now I'm all about cruising not going fast.

That would be scary fast in that old car.

It was an inside line with the ambulance service MPH The ford van with 460 V8s on the freeways would not run out of peddle..They just kept going faster...and if you don't get to the destination your dirt..So we said had to keep the speedometer from MPH or past 120 to straight down????

In cages I have had a lead foot. No matter what I drove I had the needle wrapped all the way back around to 0 at times. Problem is, the kinds of cars I drove couldn't always handle that abuse. Below is a picture of one I blew up on the way to a funeral *oops*

On my motorcycle I typically drive a bit more cautious... I attribute that to trauma from the dirt bike accident, people tell me I'm TOO cautious now... I'm getting past that (on the straight-aways... cornering still takes more courage from me)... so last June, coming out of Americade in Lake George, NY on my way back to MA, I hit between 110-120mph.

Well, My wonderful wife Laura (you know as HDBeech) gave me one of the greatest presents last Fathers Day. She got me 10 laps driving an actual NASCAR race car on California Speedway.

They have the cars governed so they only go just under 160 mph. What a rush...you come off that high bank at just around 100 and start rolling on the gas as you finish the turn and the car just keeps going faster, then you max out just in time to back off for the next turn.  If ya ever get a chance to do this...DO IT!!!

I'm not too good at driving cages "Ask my wife" so am overly cautious... but I hit 130mph on my duty bike "Honda 1300ST" last year when it was new.
That was a rush...very smooth kinda like riding in stealth mode...

The ST's will roll, put Two Bro's slip on's the one I had and saw 145 indicated one day.
  • February 6, 2010 3:05 AM PST
My VTX 1300c will only do about 120 feels like its governed, my son flys by me on his CBR600RR, he can do almost 160 on that.

The 600 RR's are quick, I can get them and most bikes off the line up to about 100 then their aero's kick in and pull away. Pretty even top end though my 919 will do that too, 155 indicated @ the red line....... The one time I took long enough to focus on the numbers on the Blackbird said 195 indicated and still climbing a little more to go. Going that fast taking your eyes off the road ahead to read numbers a few inches from your eye's isn't exactly easy OR smart......... lol

I was looking at a 919 the other day very nice clean 08 for under $7000 I don't think I want to show it to the wife though she will think I'm nuts.

218mph in a quarter mile in a fuel dragster
160mph in a circle track car
145 mph in my Chev Luv (v-8) push truck

I like speed. (in a controlled environment, not on the roads.)

sometimes its nice to be out of controled environments, like to ride without a helmet sometimes to.

I went 123 mph on a 78 Honda Hawk down hill lol, and it was scary shit even at 16! Funny story bout the car speed record....was going to Mammoth Mountain,CA. with a friend and we were taking turns driving his car. It was like a 78 Datson 280z 2+2 and I was buzzing along as fast as it would go mile after mile which turned out to be 143 mph, and Grant was napping. So he wakes up because he hears loud side pipes on a white car passing us like we are standing still, looks over at the speedo and then out the window again and says holy shit we just got passed by Andy Granitelli! In a white 4 door Caddy no less! True story and was funny as hell cause Grant always thought his car was hot shit lol!
