NJ to VA ride

Topics: 2   Posts: 15
We are planning a trip in May down the Jersey coast to Cape May, taking the Lewes Ferry into Delaware then to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Brige-Tunnel and ending in Virginia.

Any tips on taking the bike on the ferry or riding the Chesapeake Bay bridge-tunnel?

Yes.... Not on the Ferry but, the Bay-Bridge Tunnel... Keep an eye on the weather and especially the WINDS. If they get too high. They (Va DOT) won't let you cross... Been there done that!

Thanks, we are nervous about having the bike on the ferry. If there are big waves have to worry about the bike not being strapped down

The ferry is good at making your bike safe....see about booking a time and date for crossing better than waiting and possibly not making and having to wait for the next ferry...ride safe....when in May are you doing this?

sorry I won't be able to hook-up when you are in my area - I will be in Nashville that week. As was mentioned, watch the wind reports but short of a hurricane (it's early for those) the winds should not be bad that time of year and the Cape May-Lewis ferry ride is decent - nice way to take a break on the ride. I have done it several times and they usually will put the bikes in 1 area and the side stand is fine. Check the time table as mentioned to try to get your waiting time down, though it is a good place for a lunch break anyway.

Have fun!
