Moose I am guessing that you live in a small town. I am also from a small town where there is a good ol boy attitude.
I have seen law enforcement officers on many different levels not held to the levels of conduct expected from law enforcement. Believe me when I say I undestand where you are coming from. I understand the frustration. Once is a mistake after that is irresponsible and unbecoming of an officer. If I am to be held to a higher level of professinalism because I must have and maintain a CDL, whether I am on the clock or not. than is only fair that all professions be held to that higher level. Yes people are people and people make mistakes but only people can correct thier mistakes. But people also have to be willing to accept thier mistakes before they can correct them. The officer in question apparently does not have the proper leadership to recognize a problem and correct it. Therefore it just as much his fault as it the officers.
Flatlander I have the utmost respect for law enforcement and the jobs they have to do. My dad is a sheriffs deputy and I have seen what it takes to be in law enforcement. But wrong is wrong and that is all ther is to it.

They do slip between the cracks, forty years ago my Sheriff after 19 years got busted and removed from office for making White Liquor. A city cop was appointed acting Sheriff until the next election. He hired a new Deputy without doing a back ground check, Gerald Schaefer. This fella liked taking teen age gals to the woods where he tied them to a tree, raped, then chopped them up after, he pickled their ears and fingers to snack on  later. . . . . One day he got a radio call while he was working on two gals, they escaped and swam two miles across the river, they was naked and made it up stream a few more miles into the next county where they waved down a north bound construction worker, begged him to take them to the Sheriffs office in Ft. Pierce which he did. They did not want to risk reporting this in Martin County and having the same deputy be the first responder.

Man, YOU just opened up a whole shitload of worms with me on this topic...As a former law enforcment officer ( for three agencies) i CAN TELL YOU that SO MUCH shit gets swept under the carpet and so much paperwork gets sanitized you would flip your lid if only you knew...
I take some pride in knowin that when i was an officer i treated all with respect and drew everything down to a 'you respect me and i'll respect you; equation. These days the type of 'alpha ' personality seepin into the ranks of the badge are losers and wimps and basically all aopund asswipes who hide behind the authority (and indemnification) of the badge. YOU HEARD IT FROM ME!
In the course of your life you will come across an asshole "cop" who will play that Tough Tony role wbhile knowin that if you so much as offer him a 'one on one' in a holding cell he will sure as not write you up a bogus claim for 'assault'.
Damn, we live in a world where when you enter this world it is automotically 'their home field advantage'..
I was so immensely happy and relieved when i left that whole freakin world in order to reclaim myself and my personal integrity.
Always when you deal with these assholes know your rights!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1) get their names AND badge number.
2) let them see you take records of who's around and the names of potential witnesses!
3) Ask to be seen by a patrol supervisor or a LT!!
4) make notes on the time of day, officers and civilians present and the circumstances regarding such....

TAKE IT FROM ME YOU ALL....THEY THRIVE ON JOHN Q PUBLIC NOT KNOWIN THE LAW!
