My brother races them and RC planes as well, he stopped drinking 12 years ago and started these things, his wife says drinking was cheaper and she always knew where he was...now he could disappear for days . ______________________ The best arguement against democracy is a five minute conversation with the average voter |

Well I wouldn't actually say I race, but I enter the races. My son is actually the racer, and I am the Crew Chief. He has gotten pretty good, with a couple of local sponsors. He has the advantage of our home track being the home track of Ryan Cavalieri, Team Associated factory driver and 4 time World Champ. Ryan's a great guy and gives Riley lots of tips. Here is my T4. Riley Races T4, B4 and now wants an 1/8 scale... ______________________

I started racing before RC-10's came out, we ran Frogs, Grasshoppers and the rest of the Tamaya Critters, built a big off-road and dirt oval track here on county property hosted benefit and State Champ off road and dirt oval races. This is my old track here in magazine from the last race. |

Unlike the other sports he plays like little league, football, ect, where you turn him over to the coach and go sit on the bleechers and watch, in RC racing we spend the entire day together. When he is not in the race we are working side by side fixing and tuning the car, and watching the other races. Plus its a great way to teach him about caring for his equipment and tools, and how to work on stuff. The only down side is riding home with him after a day like yesterday when he got taken out of the race by another driver on the first lap. At 13 he still takes loosing pretty hard, and there aint much I can do to cheer him up :( ______________________

Most the dad's were cool, I did have a couple problems with them cheating. I guarded the novice class close, most folks would voluntarily advance themself young and old. On rare occasion I saw dad's tell the kid to hit the wall or slow down so they wouldn't turn too many laps to keep them on top and win trophy's. I would make a special plaque for them, announce it over the P.A. system and everyone would cheer moving them up a class into Stock. The kid always liked doing this it made them special, another trophy of accomplishment to show, once in a while the DAD was a problem. Saturday night under the lights at my track was difficult for me and my son to race, was just too busy with the computer counting laps and running the program. We would race weeknights at skating rinks and other tracks on sundays off road, oval or pavement races. No matter where I went my track was always on my shoulders and had to field questions, comments, how to's, where, when, ect ect ect constantly. The internet wasn't even mentioned back then, would have made life much easier for me. |
