Automatic or Standard Shift

My cushman had a centrifugal clutch with a pedal and 2 speed transmision.
Last year Honda had a 680cc Sport/ Tour hydraulic drive /no shift.  Now Aprilla Mona Sport 850 5 speed automatic with 5 select style shift and push button sport select.  Honda was $14,600 and the Aprilla is $9,000.
Will the auto be the future or follow the Hondamatic 400?

1999, Ridley introduced the first fully automatic street/cruiser motorcycle known as the Ridley Speedster. The 3/4 scale motorcycle featured a nearly 600cc Ridley V-Twin engine, fully automatic CVT transmission, low 24 inch seat height, and weighed less than 270 pounds.

The next innovation for Ridley was announced in 2003, when the company introduced its first "full size" automatic motorcycle, the Auto-Glide. By focusing on key features such as a low seat height, light weight and fully automatic transmission Ridley was able to capture the new rider segment with great success. Sales of the Auto-Glide boomed along with the dramatic increase of new riders.

A brother with a disability is why I looked into the Ridley's to start with . He had to have his left ankle fused and has found it difficult to shift since there is no longer any movement in the ankle.

think if they made a trike how many others could ride

I like they are doing that but it makes me worry about all the cages think o I dont have to shift ill get one now (4-6 gears is to many). disabled brothers and sisters is different im talking more about the "RUB" that cant drive their cages. I did not get my lisence to ride to drive an automatic motorcycle B.S. lol. But most call me an A$$. lol

Riddley was the first AMERICAN automatic, and even that is a bit of a misnomer. The Riddley uses a CVT clutched drive system so it never really shifts. Honda, and Suzuki both has true automatics in the early eighties. Honda even had a version in the 750 Four. The guts from that tranny were identical to the Civic trans of the late 70's

Today you can buy a Kawasaki Concourse with an electric shift manual. Still need to use the clutch for start, and stop. The Can Am trike is available with a electric shift manual that uses a electronic powder clutch that does the job without a lever. Honda in virtually every other non 3rd world market has this strange ass sport bike/scooter hybrid with a fully automatic trans that even blips the throttle on decel like the units in Ferrari, and BMW cars

The problem with extremes is they are too far from the norm.
