I believe the bike pictured as the subject of this post would be most correctly referred to as an "Adventure Touring" bike. Some consider that a class by itself while others would say its a sub-class of the "Sport Touring" genre.Neither one of those types is available in the menu for bike classification in the profiles, but I think maybe they should be. Sport Touring bikes would include the Honda ST1100 and ST1300, the Yamaha FJR, the Kawasaki Concours to name just a few. Sport Touring riding differs from Touring in that the pace is generally a bit quicker. A Sport Tourer is likely to head out for a 200+ mile ride just for lunch, or if going on a "trip" may run 300 to 800 mile days for several days in a row. Their rides are likely to be at a pace well faster than the average cruiser rider while at or just lower than the pace of the average sport bike rider. (No offense intended at any riders - just trying to peg the riding style of sport touring) My main riding buddy - with whom I have ridden well over 40,000 miles - rides a BMW GS - An Adventure Touring bike. We are both well suited in riding styles the only differences being he's got the advantage when we run into dirt roads while I have a slight advantage (mostly in fuel mileage) when on the pavement. Good info there...Thanks... ______________________ Amendment 28Congress shall make no law that applies to the citizens of the United States that does not apply equally to the Senators or Representatives, and Congress shall make no law that applies to the Senators or Representatives that does not apply equally to the citizens of the United States . |

Am I just weird? If I want to go real fast I will drive the Mustang & take the wife & dog w/ me. If I want to go slow I will bicycle. I want to go where the Mustang won't go & get there via the boonie roads. I like the BMW (I think, never actually sat on, much less rode one) - Real spendy tho, thought about looking @ one but looked @ check book 1st |

Mine is a 2008 GS Adventure and it is a blast to ride! My last bike was a Kawasaki KLR-650, so dual sport bikes are my obsession... So far, I have 16,000 miles on it and I would not even consider another bike unless it was an "addition" to my stable... Well worth the money... :-) |

i rode sport bikes till my 30s, after back and shoulder surgeries, my bagger is a better choice for me, it doesn't matter what you ride, just that you ride, much respect and love to all the riders. ______________________ if you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything. |

I'm not a big fan of the BMW 'look' at least not of their dual purpose bike. I started out riding an 84 Honda Magna and have switched to a 87 Honda Hurricane (CBR600). I do have issues with heights on bikes though, being only 5'1" makes a difference. I have tried a Honda Shadow and I just did not like the weight of the bike or the handling, I'll probably end up sticking with the sport bikes, easier to handle, just have to make sure I have high heels so I can ride them.. :) |

Beemers are great bikes, the Euro's have come a long way over the years. I like all motorcycles and respect everyones reason for riding what they have and choose. |

I think BMW is the best engineered bike on the market but I ride a Road King. The Road King has good engineering and in addition lots of STYLE to massage my ego... ______________________ |

Bike styles are like cars in a way. Cruiser's are like sedans. Dual Sports are like 4x4's. Sportbikes are like sportcars. Standard's are like Corvette's. Wings and other's with Captains Chairs are like limousines. Personality's match their bikes like dogs match their masters. |

The first time I saw one of those beamers with the aluminum suitcases on it I thought WOW! That guy likes JC Whitney! I am sure it would be fun to take out in the desert and destroy, but I would never buy one. If given to me, I would take best offer on craigslist for beer money though |
