I certainly hope I do not offend anyone here but...
My age must be showing 'cuz I don't feel anything looking at the beemer or any sport bike for that matter. I surely respect all you sport bike riders and their ability to perform but they are not for me. Another way of putting it is say I was at a car show, and side by side were a stock '57 chevy rag top and a super tricked honda accord. I probably wouldn't even see the honda.

Just one old biker's opinion.

I still love ya Rex! But you know my preference for bikes. You also know I'm quite fine riding the backs of the low and slow variety. For the cars... I wouldn't see that Honda either... Muscle cars get my heart pumping just like the sport bike does. :-)

A buddy of mine bought one of those BMW dual sports when he retired to make a 3 week trip down into Mexico a few years back. He didnt want to take his Harley down there and planned on some pretty rough roads. He said it was a great bike. Kinda like a moped though, fun to ride but you dont want anyone you know to see you on it.

I believe the bike pictured as the subject of this post would be most correctly referred to as an "Adventure Touring" bike. Some consider that a class by itself while others would say its a sub-class of the "Sport Touring" genre.
Neither one of those types is available in the menu for bike classification in the profiles, but I think maybe they should be.

Sport Touring bikes would include the Honda ST1100 and ST1300, the Yamaha FJR, the Kawasaki Concours to name just a few. Sport Touring riding differs from Touring in that the pace is generally a bit quicker. A Sport Tourer is likely to head out for a 200+ mile ride just for lunch, or if going on a "trip" may run 300 to 800 mile days for several days in a row. Their rides are likely to be at a pace well faster than the average cruiser rider while at or just lower than the pace of the average sport bike rider. (No offense intended at any riders - just trying to peg the riding style of sport touring)

My main riding buddy - with whom I have ridden well over 40,000 miles - rides a BMW GS - An Adventure Touring bike. We are both well suited in riding styles the only differences being he's got the advantage when we run into dirt roads while I have a slight advantage (mostly in fuel mileage) when on the pavement.
