Hey all, SingSing here..... Ive been contemplating gettin some engine guards for my 2000 Dyna but i just aint too sure bout the whole overall 'aesthetic' look of the elephant ears jutting out from my bike. As it is i dont have any right now so the bike looks kinda lean. I played with the idea of gettin some Kurakyan bars in black but damn..$$$...thats the x-factor here..The local 'Hunnard Doller' store is chargin me a bit over 2 bills-like 230 or thereabouts- for some chrome bars for my frame. They dont have it in the catalog in black. I guess i can do with the chrome. I dont really care about Black Betty winnin any beauty contest just as long as she's functionally sound. I tend to split lanes and whiteline alot here in the city so im thinkin maybe for the sake of caution get the bars and screw my concern wiht the overall lines and look of the bike. Or maybe i should just get the Mustache bar. Will the mustache bar offer some degree of protection if i lay her down. Im thinkin between the mustache bar and the outward jutting floorboards i mivght be able to withstand a crash and burn... I lean pretty deep in my turns. Any opinions and advice. Thanks. ______________________ |

SingSing, I have seen the Lindby Bars on a few Dyna's and they look pretty good. Not so much of the elephant ear look. I know the run around $350, but I am sure you can probably find a used set in good shape for a lot less. Hell even if they have a few dings, if they are cheep enough, you can have the chrome taken off and black powder coat them with the money you saved. http://www.lindbycustom.com/cart/home.php?cat=258 They also carry a universal black bar for under $200, which may also be an option. http://www.lindbycustom.com/cart/home.php?cat=295 ______________________

What year is your Dyna? I always liked highway bars. I have a Jardine I had on my FXR for a while and finally took it off as I wanted Forward Controls worse. I could have and still could do the modifications to put the bar on with the forwads but just don't have the time, space, yada, yada, yada. Send me the info on your bike and IF mine will fit your Dyna I will send it to ya. I'm thinking off the top of my head it wont fit BUT, if it does it is yours from me to you Bro....LMK ______________________ Amendment 28Congress shall make no law that applies to the citizens of the United States that does not apply equally to the Senators or Representatives, and Congress shall make no law that applies to the Senators or Representatives that does not apply equally to the citizens of the United States . |

Sing sing I just laid my flhrc down with frt engine guard , rear bag guards and. Saddle bag rails.. frt end is destroied the frt and rear running boarrs are bent and there are small scratches to the muffler and saddle bag rails. But that stuff is quick replacement. Most important is that the frt and rear guards kept the bike off my leg. And this made it possible to fly off the bike sorta unobstructed darn hanhle bars got my left leg in mid air laid the bike over on the right side. I say yes please to the engine guarde they are not that heavy won't reduce top speed that much and great highway peg mounts. Also fl bars will fit dynas all you need are 2 3/4 inch spacers. Lyndy mustash bars look great on a dyna. If you have forward controls fitment may be a problem ______________________ |

I put on highway pegs and love them too. I can only get custom forward controls because being 5" 3: leaves me too short for stock. Gotta wait for the $$$$. Truly dislike mids for me. HD bars should not interfere with stock forwards. However Sing, if you are juttin' in and out btwn cars, by God, you will need to compensate!!! I just hope some smart a** never opens their car door on you.PLEASE, be safe man. |

I have been toying with a few different solutions myself for my Softail - '03 FXST, mostly for long rides...I really want a longer reach for highway pegs for my legs. I don't really like the look of the engine guards on the cruisers to begin with, but they obviously do serve a purpose as described by sheds here. Kurakyan has a mustache bar but I don't really like it mounting to the frame tubes with clamps the way it does. Since the Softail has forward mounted controls, there are very few choices from what I can see...any ideas would be appreciated. I am also considering the 3" extensions for the forward controls, it would give me the leg reach but nothing for a position change or protection ______________________ |

Hey my crazy NY Brother I have to roll with Lucky on the Lindly bars. I really don't like the look of bars on bikes but like BullDog said they do have a purpose. Better watch that line riding, some dude in an old junker will open his door on purpose. Must admit when the traffic is at a stand still I do the lane spliting myself. Just pisses off the cages. Be cool got to go and fight crime now. Dragon ______________________ |

LOOK? Only you can make that call. Function, they do offer some. Convenience, additional place for your feet is good. Cost, Tell me something cheap about motorcycles. ______________________ |

engine guards w/ a point at end will make you and your bike flip end on end, stay w/a rounded profile. |

I see the Dyna as a Hot Rod performance bike, to me it would look out of place. |

Your choice - wreck it and you either have bent bars or no leg if it drops on ya- I may a little prejuice that way but I've had my legs for 70 years and I would like to keep them the way they are. But then again lookin cool is something I gave trying to be a long time ago after my ride crushed my foot cause I was not using the bars. |

another vote for Lindby. I really like the lower profile and extra foot rest |
