How Do I Put A Picture In My Forum Signature?

Topics: 3   Posts: 121

I see some people with images in their forum signature.  When I go to settings and try to put an image in my signature, it asks me for the image url.  What if I have the image on my computer and not a website?

You are correct...the forum software only allows signature images that are already on the internet..

First if you have a photo account somewhere, like PhotoBucket, Snapfish, etc, you can upload the picture there and enter the picture url in your signature.

Or you can use your photo album here following these steps.

  1. Create a new photo album (in the user menu My Apps -> Photos)  If this album is only for your sig pic and you don't want anyone to actually see the Album, under Who Can See This Album, select Only Me.
  2. Upload your signature picture to the new album.  Go to your profile and view the picutre in the album.
  3. Rigth click on the picture and click Properties.  Highlight the address and put it in the Picture URL field of signature or forum post.

I know it may sound a little complicated, but when you do it you will actually find it quite easy.

Ok I did the add pic.. that's pretty fun. I do have another question.

I have ran out of room on my album space. I "assume" it is because I did not down size the pictures. I uploaded them at the size that they are off the camera.

Ok my question is... What is the best size to make the pics so that they display correctly and I have more room to upload more.

My second question..I used the steps listed above to add the funny looking pics of the motorcycles in the forum. But it took up more room in my album space. Is the best way to handle that to just delete the comment and upload the pics to the forum?

I am having fun learning to navigate and play on this site. I want to learn how to use is as it is supposed to be used and in the most effective way.

Actually ou anly need to use that procedure for signatures, which do not allow direct upload of images. When psoting to a forum topic the system allows you to upload pictures to a post directly from you computer, not using any of your personal album space.  You will notice when using the Advanced Reply form, there is an Attachments section right below the Smilies.  Just browse to the photo on your computer and hit Upload.  Do not forget to hit the Upload button after you browse.  If the image properly uploaded you will see it listed under the upload box with a place to add a description.

As for your second issue on being out of album space, you actually are not.  I see you have approx. 1/2 of your allotted 5mb still left.  The problem may have been the individual file was exceeding the limit of upload size.  I have just increased that to allow files up to 2mb to be uploaded.  So try it again.

The file size when you upload does not really effect your album usage.  All images uploaded are automatically resized and optimized before being saved to your album.

Just so you know the 5mb limit is what I came up with for basic accounts.  Even now with 1100 users at 5mb each, that equals 5.5gb of space.  And of course our gaol is to have 20,000 users of more in the future.  I will be creating upgraded accounts with virtually unlimited storage.  These accounts can be earned or purchased...more on that later.
