Here's a new list to try out:

America has been involved in too many wars and they have depicted in many, many movies.  What we will do here is name a war movie involving America, the main star of the movie and the war the movie was about.  Try to altenate wars as much as you can.  To help save confusion here is a list of the "eligible" wars:

REVELUTIONARY WAR
WAR OF 1812
MEXICAN-AMERICAN WAR
WAR OF 1812
FRENCH & INDIAN WAR
CIVIL WAR
SPANISH-AMERICAN WAR
WWI AND WWII
KOREA
VIETNAM
DESERT STORM
OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM
IRAQI FREEDOM

I will start with:
     To Hell and Back-Audie Murphy....WWII

Sergeant York Gary Cooper...WWI

M.A.S.H. (the Movie) - Donald Sutherland - Korean War

"Glory" Matthew Broderick, Morgan Freeman-Civil War------Glory is an Academy Award- winning 1989 drama war film based on the 54th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry as told from the point of view of its commanding officer, Robert Gould Shaw during the American Civil War. The 54th was one of the first formal units of the U.S. Army to be made up entirely of African-American men (apart from the officers). Copied Pasted from Wikipedia, Cheated only on the above Script not on knowing the movie and actors.

Glory that is a Great Movie Steven!
"Band of Brothers" Easy Company of the 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment. Not really any one person but the entire Company. Many great character actors. I have the set and have watched it at least 5 times start to finish.

My all time favorite modern war movie is Saving Private Ryan starring Tom Hanks WWII. All though Rex the RoadDog thiefed my next movie pick. HA HA HA Band of the Brothers is one of my favorite. I started watching Brothers while in Bosnia, a buddy of mine mother sent episodes to him and we got see them. However, it took 4 years to see the last 4 episodes. I bought the complete set while in Iraq. My battle buddy and I watch one episode a month, while until he couldn't stand waiting 30 days for the next and pulled rank on me and then that was the end of that and watch the rest all in one night.

Steven, The thing I found most interesting about the Band of Brothers series is the interviews placed throughout the series. These were obviously combat veterans but the real kicker was that they were the actual men the movie was about. That really put it on a personal level. Almost as if you knew them. Saving Private Ryan is my number two pick.

Hey Steven, what I found did not indicate that Barbary Coast (the movie) had anything to do with the Barbary Wars. Sorry.  Here is a synopsis of the movie:

Oscar nominee Miriam Hopkins and Oscar winner Edward G. Robinson star in this glittering masterpiece about gold, greed and 14-karat love. Set against the 1849 Gold Rush, this Academy Award nominated film is a suspenseful, "juicy melodrama" (Halliwell's Film and Video Guide) that "has all it takes" (Variety) to strike it rich!
When gorgeous gold digger Mary (Hopkins) lands in San Francisco - only to discover that her wealthy fiance has been murdered - she loses no time hooking up with the richest crook in town (Robinson). But when she unexpectedly falls for a handsome, idealistic miner, she soon learns just how much money can't buy - and just how much she'll risk for a love that's worth its weight in gold.

Dang it I figure it would turn out to be one of those Oldie Chick Flick movie. My ole lady suggested Gone with the Wind and I said no cause it is a chick flick and it turns out that Barbary Coast was a chick flick. Thanks Knowhowman, for keeping me on my to toes and I definitely will do a better job on my research skills. This is a really fun game. So I get to submit 2 movies since I screwed the last one up.

Thin Red Line, James Caviezel, Sean Penn WWII
Hunt for Red October, Sean Connery, Alec Baldwin, Cold War
I know it is not on the list, but I have to give ya a hard time and make it challenge for ya
I also know that the Cold War did not have a batlle field, but many uncover and coverts died in our defense. So, I ask to add the Cold War to your list

Steven, thank you for pointing out the Cold War. I had thought about it but it kinda just slipped by the wayside when I started this and there are some great movies about it so it'll fall into the "guidelines".  By the way, I would let Gone With The Wind in because it does deal with an American War.  There are a few more I can think of that would go but I will not post them yet to see if someone else comes up with them first.
