I have a question about the insurance of my bike. Both my boyfriend and I started riding the same exact time, we both took the same safety course, and he's only a year and a half older than me. I have an 06 883 sportster custom and he had an 05 sport low...he only pays 3 something a year for insurance, meanwhile, i got a claim from the same insurance company and they wanted me to pay close to 6...he just bought a new 2010 sport nightster and his insurance only went up 27 bucks...how come his is so much cheaper than mine is even though we have the same coverage? he says its cause im a girl but im sure that can't be right. any ideas? thanksss guys =] |

Not know crap about insurance; or much else fo that matter...(seriously)....LOL. From the info youv'e given it seems the policy premiums would /should be close. Other things to consider; age, how much/far driven, driving record, OR...YOUR A GIRL!! Sounds bad huh? I haven't checked but I suspect if ya do a internet engine search on the subject you'll find women in general will pay higher premiums. I mean look at the general overall pay for women versus men in this country. Women with much more education and experiance are recieving less than men. But hey what do I know except that your a girl....LOL ______________________ Amendment 28Congress shall make no law that applies to the citizens of the United States that does not apply equally to the Senators or Representatives, and Congress shall make no law that applies to the Senators or Representatives that does not apply equally to the citizens of the United States . |

i think i would call them with BOTH policies in hand and make them explain this, if they don't explain it to YOUR satisfaction, start looking around. oh, and insurance online, sometimes they put you in the "pool", you do much better with an actual agent. ______________________ if you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything. |

The insurance company may have found a higher accident rate among women, but that doesn't seem likely to me. The industry has basically all different rates based on age, gender, location, etc. The rates are calculated from the accident / loss history for that group. Kind of like if you have a teen boy and girl in the house around the same age (I did). The girl will be about 25-30% less since teen boys statistically have more accidents. ______________________

I have shopped various companies and the rates varied substantially ~ my current policy is $330 / 6 months. Some of the other quotes I have received are in the $550 to $1200 range! I know I get a good break from my company based on multi vehicle / home owners package, but they also said I got a good rate because I bought a Harley (seriously) and they feel those owners are more likely to take care of their bike and be more responsible. I kid you not ~ they told me if I had bought a 'sport bike' ~ I would be paying $1200 +. Not having any accidents / tickets helped a lot too. I don't know about your company, but a lot are watching your credit score as well, and basing policy rates on that. I don't think that is fair, but they do it. Will be interesting to hear what you find out! |
