Embroidered Patches and Clothing Repair

  • Recently, I read a story from the UK talking about an enterprising lady from London who had repaired her daughter's clothing with embroidered patches. I don't remember all the details except to say that whatever article of clothing it was, similar garments had a long history of wearing out how too quickly. Once the woman realized how well her repair came out she thought about creating a business based on providing the service for other mothers. It turned out to be a great success.

The fad has apparently made it across the Atlantic based on what I saw at the park. I observed a mother with her three children on the playground; the knees of one of the boy's pants sporting embroidered patches. When I inquired the nice lady told me that the pants were handed down from other children and were perfectly fine except for the knee holes. She purchased some stock patches online and sewed them in place. She was happy because it was an expensive repair, her boy was happy because one was a football and the other a baseball.

Using embroidered patches from thecheapplace.com to make clothing repairs is a great idea, as long as the hole or tear you're trying to cover is not too big. Stitch it all the way around with a sewing machine, or by hand, and the patch will more than likely be more durable than the fabric surrounding it. In the case of kids clothes, look for stock patches they will find amusing and it's like getting a brand-new piece of clothing for them.

As I was leaving the park I couldn't help wondering why my wife and I didn't think of that while our kids were still young. But...with any luck there's always the grandkids!
