National club rally with a twist

  • Went to my clubs National Rally last weekend. 340 people braved the elements, to travel to Lake Keepit, dam. In the country area just to the northwest of Tamworth NSW Australia. The state Government owns and operates a tourist facilty there, with dormitory style bunkhouses and halls kitchens and even cooks. For the nominal fee of 150 bucks per head we were treated to 3 squares a day starting Friday afternoon at 3pm. Bar prices $2.50 per beer and $5 per spirit drink in a can.

The twist being, although it is a bike club...I chose to drive it.I had been away with the other half for a week, and we decided that rather than come back early we'd just show up at the rally point..in our SUV..Being in a bike club is supposed to be about the ride. I could tell from the getgo that members of my chapter thought the same thing. It didn't matter that I was away...I was told i could have trailered and just ridden home with the chapter on the following sunday. I didn't opt for this...and so i got the impression that although I was there, I wasn't really part of our group. Funny thing is no one else from any other chapter had these reservations. The fact i was there was all that mattered.

Things were going great on the first night...right up until peeps started sacking out..then the usual trouble started. I have found that the biggest problem when travelling is that some want to sack out earlier than others. Thats fine..those that don't are encouraged to party on as long as they deem fit. The problem becomes a big issue when the party ends up right outside the room where people are sacked out. Like it's not if there isn't enough space. There was plenty. But the party peeps always decide that they need stuff constantly from their gear...so with grunting and groaning and lights on and off and the slamming of doors..suddenly those, that chose to sack out..are being woken by those who didn't. Harsh words? You bet there was. Hang overs the next day sure....the first nighters trying to get sack time during the day ...no chance..payback always bites you in the ass. Then the feelings start to get hurt...just like kindergarten...seems we never really break out of it...

So saturday arfternoons gymkana went off with a bang...bands refreshments and plenty of spills...of course everyone tries to stay moderate on the 2nd night because we all know what its like to head out next day feeling worse for wear...and having in the back of your mind that the local fuzz..know where we are...and made their presence felt..oh to be a biker........seems sacking out became my favorite pastime last weekend..drinking @ 11am to 8pm....then blissfully sacking the whole night away...noise..what noise!

Seems SUV's don't draw as much attention from the thin blue line as we thought. Club buses towing empty trailers do however.

Next years National is 1000 km south....think I'm gunna ride to that one...and take about a week either side of it...until next yr....happy travels...
