Motorcycle Racer's Premature Celebration

  • The auto-racing equivalent to spiking the football at the 5-yard line occurred in hilarious-- yet tragic -- fashion at the Italian CIV championship motorcycle race.

Riccardo Russo of Yamaha Team Italia SFI was leading by about three bike lengths as he crossed the start-finish line of the Stock 600 at the Mugello Circuit, then hoisted is arms skyward in celebration.

Meanwhile, a bevy of riders buzzed past him ... because they all correctly ascertained that there was still one lap to go.

The gaffe relegated Russo to a 14th-place finish, YouTube infamy and a reminder of past premature celebrations of Lindsey Jacobellis and a Moroccan soccer goalkeeper.
