What's your kind of Biker Bar?

  • Long past are the days when those who chose a life on two wheels were looked upon as outcasts of society and as such frequented only the darker and seedier back ally bars filled with others who had also been labeled as such. While there are still those who embrace the biker lifestyle of those bygone days, today’s biker, or motorcycle enthusiast as many prefer to be called, come from all walks of life, professional background and socioeconomic upbringing.  As different as their riding styles and the brand of motorcycles they ride so are the kinds of drinking establishments you might find any particular type of biker hanging out in.

    Biker Hot Spot
Those well known hot spots were hundreds upon hundreds of bikes and bikers swarm to each weekend. There is a certain fascination about these places that many do not understand while many others enjoy. On weekends, bikes are usually packed to local biker hot spots, some even have parking attendance to help keep bikes and roadways from getting blocked. One such place is Neptune’s Net, located just north of Malibu Beach in Southern California. Like Neptune’s Net, these biker bars are more often frequented by the weekend warrior biker, and that is not meant to be anything derogatory as many of the weekend riders put more miles on their scooters than self proclaimed “real bikers”. These types of biker bars are always packed on weekends as a non-stop stream of freshly shined chrome and dolled up biker babes roll in to show off their wares. Neither of these are a bad thing and judging from the onlooking crowds, are the main attraction. Two tasks that are difficult to accomplish at these establishments is get a cold beer (the lines at the bar are always ridiculous) and take a leak (the lines are equally as long).

    Micro Brewery
The modern day biker seems to have transformed into a connoisseur of fine cigars and craft beers. While not often called micro breweries anymore, there are still plenty in existence and most churn out an array of pretty tasty brews. And so, bikers being the beer drinkers that they are, and with their newfound love of fine cigars, these micro breweries have become a regular hangout of this particular kind of biker. Many of these spots host local entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights, making them a great place to hang out and bring the ladies to dance as well!

    The Bikini Bar
Biking Bars have been around for ages and have been frequented by bikers for as long. You’re less likely to see a sports bike or a $35,000 custom chopper parked out front while your odds are better than even they’ll be a few Harleys adorned with support stickers, parked out back. Bikini Bars get a bad rap from the modern day biker and most that frequent these establishments like it that way. Bikini Bars are usually not crowded and have a pretty laid back clientele, most of which are known by name by the pretty lady behind the bar. And as their name implies, the ladies slinging the beers wear little booty shorts and bikini tops to enhance their tip bucket. If you’ve never stopped in to a Bikini Bar, make it a point, you will be pleasantly surprised. And females are welcome too, they have a tendency to dress the place up!

    Sports Bar
Probably the most diverse of all bar types that bikers frequent, sports bars typically attract a younger, louder and more energetic crowd. Clientele in sports bars range from collage kids to families looking for some hot wings and everything in between. Sports bars have become favorite biker bars as they are well suited for large crowds, usually have large pool rooms, a smoking patio and in most cases they welcome bikers in with open arms. Many Sports Bars host monthly and sometimes even weekly bike nights and are usually well attended. Sports bars have really come into their own in regards to being considered a biker bar.

    Beer Joint
The classic beer joint is a favorite amongst the more traditional biker. You’ll not get a drink with fruit or a little umbrella at one of these places and you’ll probably get no more than a dozen choices of beers but what you will get is good old down to earth folks just stopping in for a cold refreshment and maybe a little conversation. Not frequented by the weekend warrior crowd nor the sports bikes or duel sport riders, but that does not mean that these beer joints are exclusive or snobbish, they’re just not to everyones liking. Usually a little dingy and of modest decor, what these little beer joints lack in flash they make up for in hospitality. There is a lot to be said about beer joints and is what makes them some of the best biker bars around.

There is no right or wrong, good or bad when it comes to one preference in the type of bar a biker choose to frequent. It makes no difference if you arrive in a full leather body suite or a sexy halter top as biker all share one thing in common, their passion for two wheels!
