Erie PA. food vendors

  •  Local food vendors and restaurateurs expressed frustration when a single out-of-town vendor was contracted to serve up the food around Perry Square for the thousands of bikers expected to roll into Erie for Roar on the Shore, scheduled for July 13-17. Those wanting a taste of Erie, however, need only head west to the West Erie Plaza.

Emily Smicker, project coordinator for VCG Properties, which owns the plaza, learned of the concerns of local food businesses, she created a new event to showcase local food vendors during Roar on the Shore. The plaza event, called West Erie Gears & Grub, will run July 14-16 and feature 10 local vendors.

Roar on the Shore, which raises money for charity, is expected to pump $25 million into the local economy.

Now local restaurants will get a some lost money back.

  • RevBigJohn The whole deal here started when some food trucks that regularly service this area every weekday got shoved out for this rally.
Around Perry Square is the US Federal building, City of Erie municipal building, Erie County courthouse, and a plethora of...  more
  • RexTheRoadDog There were similar problems way back in the day when we started Rolling Thunder...things never change.
  • RevBigJohn The West Erie Plaza location is just a short ride away plus H-D Erie has split off from Roar on the Shore and has Bikefest July 9th - 17th not far from there.
  • RevBigJohn This all started off as a ride of local bikers from Griswold Plaza down state street to Dobin's Landing one night led by Peter Fonda that was in town speaking at a meeting of those who "own" Roar on the Shore.
    The key word is "local".
