Well here we are in February and the holidays are finally behind us and things are getting back to normal. For some the riding season never ends and they are out enjoying the "early spring" riding weather, for others there may still be a short wait before the bike is back on the road. Whether you are just getting ready to take the bike out for the first time of the season, or you have been riding all year long... this would be a good time to give your motorcycle a good once over inspection. See our tips on performing a Basic Motorcycle Inspection.

This time of year also brings the kick-off of the motorcycle rally season. Daytona which is typically the year's first major motorcycle rally is just under a month away, and right after that we see rallies all over the south and little by little rallies further and further to the north. Be sure to check the CycleFish Event Calendar for the most complete list of rallies and all motorcycle events you will find anywhere!
Congratulations to Our January Bike of the Month Winner...

Well another summer has come and gone. For some of us that means we need to dig out our gloves with fingers (sorry not trying to rub it in), and for others it means that soon it will be time to put the bike away for a while and break out the winter toys. For those who do need to put their bikes away for the winter, here are a few tips to winterize your motorcycle to ensure it's ready to go when you are next spring.

Toy RunsOne of my favorite things about this time of year is that the Toy Runs are starting. Nothing will make you feel better than participating in a toy run on your motorcycle with hundreds of other generous bikers. There are tens of thousands of kids out there who will not know the excitement of opening a new toy this Holiday Season without a little help from others. And who better to help than the motorcycle community, one of the most giving groups around. There are a variety of reasons why these children need our help; some come from poverty strickened families, some have no family at all, and others are spending their Holiday in the hospital, and for many of them it is one of many Holidays they will spend in the hospital.

Yes these are tough times for many of us, but it doesn't take much to bring a smile to the face of these kids. Nothing beats the excitement on a child's face when hundreds of leather-clad bikers show up with piles of toys! I have participated in many Toy Runs, and the enjoyment never wears off.

Speaking of our Event Calendar... Those of you who are event promoters or associated with upcoming events be sure to list them in the calendar as soon as you have a confirmed date for your event. The longer an event is listed in our calendar, the more people will see it. To list an event in our calendar, simply click the Events tab and then click "Add New Event" at the top of the calendar page.

When you receive an email notifying you of a new message on CycleFish, do NOT reply to the email - that comes back to us. You need to log in to your CycleFish account and reply to the message on the site.

To add content on CycleFish (photos, blogs, classified ads, etc) or to manage your current content, go to My Apps on the user menu and select the appropriate section from the dropdown list.

To add or edit content on your profile page place your mouse over the small arrow next to My Profile and select the section of your profile you wish to edit.

We also have a few Video Tutorials for some of the common tasks performed by users on CycleFish.

What's New on CycleFish

Hopefully you have noticed significant improvement in the speed and function of the CycleFish website. We have recently upgraded all of our systems to not only improve the current performace of our website, but to also ensure that our website will continue to handle the increase in users as well as the addition of new features well into the future.

Note to Our CycleFish Buisiness Users

Right now is the absolute best time to take advantage of advertising on CycleFish. As the summer ends most advertising options targeted toward motorcyclists decline - distribution of local publications decrease and there are fewer trade shows and events to set up booths, etc - even though your need to advertise continues. However usage of the CycleFish website continues all year round, and actually tends to increase by as much as 30% to 50% during the winter months when people can't ride and still want to keep in touch with the motorcycle community.

I know I'm late on getting the newsletter out, it has just been so busy around here... but that's a good thing. So we're gonna keep the newsletter real short and sweet this month!

Never Forget
I'm sure I really don't have to remind anyone that this weekend is the 10th anniversary of the 9-11 attacks on the United States. I know everyone remembers exactly where they were and what they were doing when they heard the news, and that gut-wrenching feeling of emotion that poured over them as they saw the first pictures of the tragedy. Hopefully as the years continue to pass no one ever forgets that feeling, and more importantly no one ever forgets the victims, their families and all of those who have sacrificed or risked there lives since then as a result of the events of that day.

I hope that everyone will take time to remember all of those people this weekend. There are a number of 9-11 remembrance events going on throughout the country that you can take part in. You can find many here in our Event Calendar. If you can't make it to one of these public events, please take the time to say a prayer, have a moment of silence or do whatever it is that you feel is appropriate.

Seems like it was just the other day when there was forum post after forum post from people wanting the cold weather to go away...Well it has and the heat has come on with a vengeance. I just read that for the first time ever in a single month at least one area in all 50 states had a record high temperature. Not that I'm complaining because to me any riding weather is great weather.

Even though summer is just about half over, we still have over 1,400 events listed in our Event Calendar for this year, and are adding new events everyday. Plus we're getting a lot of the info on the major 2012 events in the calendar so that you can start making plans for your major trips early!

CycleFish Meet & Greets

We had two CycleFish Meet & Greets in July, and they both just happen to be the same weekend.

  Run 21
First was Run 21 in Birkenfield, Oregon put on by ABATE of Oregon. Jeff (HighRisk) & Denise (Deener) were kind enough to setup the CycleFish Camp. Jeff & Denise traveled to the event with John & Patty of American Custom Cycle of Buckley, WA - American Custom is a new advertiser and CycleFish Sponsor! According to Jeff about 2,000 attended the rally, the weather was perfect and the event was great! There were around 20 or so CycleFish members that either camped with Jeff and the crew or made it by at some point to meet the other CycleFish members. And for those who hadn't heard of CycleFish before the rally, Jeff and Denise made sure they had before they left. As Denise put temporary CycleFish on the girls, Jeff handed out business cards and even found a fine representitive to wear a CycleFish shirt in the wet t-shirt contest.

A big thank you to Jeff & Denise for being our CycleFish Ambassadors, and another big thank you to ABATE of Oregon for their hospitality!

Run 21

That same weekend Laura & I attended Too Broke for Sturgis in Mormon Lake, AZ put on by ABATE of Arizona. We rode out on Thursday with Cheryl & Terry (wheels) and it was another great event with perfect weather. We set up the CycleFish Camp and had quite a few CycleFish members and fans stop by to say hi. We even had the chance to meet Mustang Sally, a CycleFish member who was vending at the event. On Friday we got in some riding through the beautiful canyons in the Sedona area. Friday afternoon we browsed the vendors and watched the games and contests. However Friday night didn't go all that well... right after we saw the Charlie Brechtel Band perform we went to bed and woke up on Saturday morning to the terrible news that there was a shooting at the event - three people were dead and one was critically wounded. Needless to say the remainder of the event was canceled and everyone needed to pack up and leave. Read more about the event here - Too Broke for Sturgis Recap

A big thank you to ABATE of Arizona for their hospitality!

Ok, I for one am sick of all the products claiming "Made by Bikers, for Bikers" when most are nothing more than off the shelf products repackaged. But the bike and personal care products from Time Rider are uniquely designed products FOR BIKERS. They were kind enough to send me a selection of their products to try, and I have got to tell you I am impressed. All of the products I tried worked exactly as described, and they are packaged in perfect size for motorcycle travel. Check their products out, I know you too will be happy with them.

Well we can finally say Welcome to Summer, and what a great summer this is turning out to be... We have been riding and attending rallies and events almost every week and meeting more and more CycleFish members and fans everywhere we go! But that isn't really a big surprise because CycleFish is growing faster than ever. Last month we hit 500,000 visits for the first time and had over 1,100 new members sign up. So to all those new members - WELCOME, and to all of our older members - thanks for continuing to make CycleFish one of the best sites around!

Hopefully everyone is getting a chance to ride and get out to some of the great events that are happening. We still have over 1,400 events listed in our Event Calendar for this year, and are adding around 100 new events to the calendar every week! And the great news is that every event promoter I have talked to tells me the attendance this year is finally up after a couple of slow years due to the economy.
CycleFish Meet & Greets

Redwood Run

If you've been on the site at all over the past few weeks you have undoubtedly seen the posts and pictures from our Annual Meet & Greet at the Redwood Run. Even with all the early problems the Kiwanis of the Redwoods (the event organizer) had putting on this year's event, the Redwood Run and the CycleFish Meet & Greet was one of the best ever, with one big exception... Laura (HDBeech) couldn't make it for the first time in 8 years and she was missed by all - especially me! The new venue was much nicer than the old place, the bands were great, good food, good people and lots of beer! Of course the CycleFish camp was once again the center of attention and I think almost everyone at the rally stopped by at one point or another.

I really want to thank all of the CycleFish members who attended (approximately 60+ that I know of), and I want to especially thank DebraJo, HighRisk, Deener and Harleyman for all of their help in setting up the CycleFish Camp, and Danielle and all the Kiwanis of the Redwoods for their hospitality!

We have two more CycleFish Meet and Greets coming up here in July:

Too Broke for Sturgis put on by ABATE of Arizona in Mormon Lake, AZ. Laura and I will be attending and host the CycleFish Meet & Greet.

Run 21 put on by ABATE of Oregon in Birkenfeld, OR. Jeff (HighRisk) and Denise (Deener) will be hosting the CycleFish Meet & Greet here.

If you are interested in hosting a CycleFish Meet & Greet at an event in your area, just contact Lucky and we'll make sure you get everything you need. A couple of events coming up that we can't attend but would really like to have CycleFish Meet & Greets at are: Sturgis and the Easyriders Rodeo Tour & Motorcycle Rally in Chillicothe, OH

What's New on CycleFish

Although no new features were added to the site this month, we have been hard at work updating our systems and processes to ensure CycleFish is running faster than ever and able to handle our future growth. We apologize for any inconvenience the couple of short outages that were necessary to complete these may have caused, and we hope you are noticing that the CycleFish site is now running faster.

Bike of the Month is Back

I can't believe it's already May!!! We have been so busy both here at work on CycleFish and trying to get out and ride as much as possible (which explains why the newsletters are getting later and later each month). But busy is good...at least for us. Last month was another record month here on CycleFish with over 300,000 visitors to the site, and this month is already shaping up to blow that away!!! We also had just under 1,000 people sign up last month, so don't forget to say hi to our new members when you're on the site.

We did find time to make it out to the Laughlin River Run... at least for the first two days of it. Now I'll be honest and let you know that I am really not a big fan of the Laughlin River Run. Over the past 6 years or so it has become so over commercialized and policed, that it is really nothing more than a biker shopping mall. However we did have a great ride out with our friends Shadow & Diane (SearchAngel191), and Paula. And for the first time I can remember we made it across the desert without seeing 110° weather! While there we did run into quite a few CycleFish members and even a few business members sitting in the hot sun selling their wares. Andrea - from Wrapter - and her hubby brought their dual-sports and got some fun desert riding in across the river in Bullhead City!

The next few events for Laura and I will be... San Diego School Girl Run, Redwood Run, and then Too Broke for Sturgis (which we are). Hopefully we will see some of you there!

Site Tips

It is now possible to search for a user by username (or any part of their username). Go to Users on the Main Menu and in the search box "Username" enter any part of the username you are looking for.

When replying to a comment someone placed on your profile, be sure to use the "reply" link located just below the comment on the right side. This will put the reply on their profile - not yours - so that they will be notified of the reply comment!

When you receive an email notifying you of a new message on CycleFish, do NOT reply to the email - that comes back to us. You need to log in to your CycleFish account and reply to the message on the site.

If you receive a lot of Private Messages (PMs) on CycleFish, you may want to delete any messages that are not necessary to save. The system will only sore up to 100 messages in your Inbox and 50 messages in your Outbox. Once you have reached the limit the system automatically deletes the oldest message.

We also have a few Video Tutorials for some of the common tasks performed by users on CycleFish.

As always, we want to thank each and every one of you for being a part of the CycleFish community. Remember, this is your website, not ours (we just maintain it for you). Those who are active in the CycleFish community, sharing photos, adding content, and making friends, have already realized the benefits of being a part of a community sharing the same interest...motorcycles and riding. So if you haven't stopped by in a while, be sure to browse around and see what's new. And don't forget to tell everyone you know about CycleFish, so that our community can continue to grow.

Well spring is finally here and we are seeing more and more bikes on the road every day. We hope that all of our Cyclefish members are finally getting some nice weather and are able to get out and ride! And if you are looking for somewhere to ride, remember to check out our Event Calendar. We now have more rides, runs and rallies than we have ever had before, and Laura (HDBeech) is working hard adding even more events every day. Don't forget to put any events that you or your group is having in our calendar as soon as possible so that our users and visitors have plenty of time to plan on attending.

And speaking of events, the Redwood Run is coming and we will be having our Annual CycleFish Redwood Meet & Greet. I know for many of you who aren't out here on the west coast, that you won't be able to make it...but if you are in riding distance we would really like to see you there. We will also be at the Laughlin River Run, but can only stay for the first two days. We'll be getting in on Wednesday and we are planning a group ride on Thursday. There will be more info posted in the comments section of the event listing next week.

For those that are just a little far to make it to these west coast Meet & Greets, we would like to suggest that you start a Meet & Greet in your area to get to know your friends from here on CycleFish. It doesn't have to be at a rally, or even a big planned out thing, just get together for a ride and maybe a bite to eat and some cold drinks. If you want to put together a Meet & Greet in your area...visit the CycleFish Meet & Greet forum to get started!

March means Daytona Bike Week, which to many is the Official Kick off to the 2011 Rally Season.  In talking to a number of the rally and event promoters, the feedback we are getting from most is that things are already looking a little better for attendance in 2011.  Of course no one is expecting attendance to be back at the all time highs we saw 4 or 5 years ago, but most are fairly positive that this year will show an increase over the 2010 all time low.  Laura (HDBeech) has been working harder than ever to ensure we get all of the 2011 motorcycle events and rallies listed in our Event Calendar as early as possible so that eveyone can start making their plans now for the rallies they will be attending.

Congratulations to our two Bike of the Month Winners for March 2011!

Even though it’s only February, we can already tell that riding season is just around the corner.  For some there has already been a few breaks in the weather allowing for short rides and for others it may still be a ways off.  But they are already thinking about getting the bike ready for when the weather does clear!  Whether you are just pulling your bike out of winter storage or you’re one of the lucky ones that can ride all year round, this is always a good time to give your bike a complete inspection to make sure it is safe and reliable.  Be sure to review the Basic Motorcycle Inspection Tips.

We can also tell that riding season is coming, because the event planners and promoters are finalizing the dates and details on the 2011 Events, Rallies, and Runs, and of course we are working hard to make sure we have as many as possible listed in our Event Calendar. We have over 1,200 events already listed in the calendar and are adding between 20 and 50 new events every day.

Congratulations to our two Bike of the Month Winners for February 2011!

Algiejive and his 1945 Knucklehead Chopper for the Vintage Class and
Numbnutz and his 2006 Softail Springer for the Stock Class.

Note: Since there were only two entries in the Custom Class, they will be moved into the March contest.

As we mentioned in our last newsletter…2010 was a great year and we are looking forward to an even better 2011.  Well we are off to a really good start.  Thanks to the growing popularity of CycleFish and all of our great members, new member registration has been at an all time high over the past several weeks with an average of 37 new members joining CycleFish every day.  Please let’s not forget to make these new users feel welcome by dropping them a  message or profile comment welcoming them to the site.

Since we do have so many new members on the site, I would like to take just a minute to answer a few of the questions we get most frequently from our members, both new and old…

How Do I Add A Profile Picture and Update My Profile?  Simply place your mouse over the small arrow to the right of the word Profile on the User Menu and select one of the three options… “Edit Profile Information”, “Change Profile Photo”, or “Edit Profile Layout”.  You can also go to your Profile page by clicking on Profile on the user menu and from there use the link in the left column to edit your profile information.

How Do I Add Content Such As Photo Albums, Blogs, Classified Ads, Etc?  Pretty much all features can be accessed from the My Apps menu.  To access the My Apps menu, place your cursor over the small arrow next to “My Apps” on the user menu and select the feature in which you would like to add content or edit your existing content.

What Is The Difference Between Posting A Blog Or A Forum Topic?  Blogs and Forum Topics are similar in the fact that both allow you to share information with other users.  The difference, at least as we encourage it here on CycleFish, is that a Blog is typically information you want to share without a lot of interaction from other users.  Blogs are typically seen by those who view your Profile and follow through to your Blog section.  Forum posts however are much more interactive and used when you want other users to continue the topic.  Forums are also much more readily viewed by all other users.

First of all, we want to wish everyone a Very Happy New Year!

2010 was a great year here at CycleFish and we’re looking forward to an even better 2011.  We started out 2010 with right around 4,000 registered users, and activity was starting to pick up with 100 or so user actions every day (comments, forum posts, messages, etc).  As we move into 2011 we now have over 12,000 users and 100’s of user actions every HOUR.

In 2010 we saw our first few CycleFish Meet & Greets where groups of CycleFish members met in person.  Some were held in conjunction with major motorcycle events like Sturgis and the Redwood Run; others were put together by users to meet up in places like Bowling Green, KY, Maggie Valley, NC, Santiago Canyon, CA, Orlando, FL, and even Ireland!  A good time was had by all and many friendships were made and solidified. We are looking forward to many more CycleFish Meet & Greets in 2011.  I know that Laura and I were lucky enough to personally meet around 100 CycleFish members last year, both locally and traveling to events!  Visit the Meet & Greet Forum for more information on attending or organizing a Meet & Greet in your area.

There were also some changes to the site itself last year (hopefully for the better), adding some new features and improving the overall function of the site.  Some of the things that were added were…

Chat – The Chat program got off to kind of a slow start and is still growing in popularity, so be sure to check it out by clicking the Chat link on the user menu when you are on the site.

Video Sharing – Allows users to upload videos and share YouTube videos in their own Video Galleries.

Vendor Row – CycleFish Business users can now sell their products directly on the CycleFish website.  Be sure to check out Vendor Row to see these great products.  If you are a business wanting to sell your products on Vendor Row, Click Here for more information.

Garage & Service Tracker – A cool feature that serves several functions.  First, your Garage lets you share pictures and information on your bike(s) with other users.  Second, the Service Tracker feature lets you conveniently store all of your bikes’ maintenance records right here on CycleFish so they can be quickly accessed anywhere you have internet service.  Click Here for more more information on the Garage & Service Tracker feature.

Site Tutorials - We added a few Video Tutorials to assist you in using some of the basic features on CycleFish and will be adding many new tutorials in the near future.  In the meantime, if you ever have any questions on using the features on CycleFish, fell free to ask us, or the forum is always a great place to ask your fellow users for help.

Event Listings – With over 8,000 events listed last year, one of the most popular sections on the CycleFish website is our Motorcycle Event Calendar.   Although it was not added in 2010, our Event Calendar has lots of new features and functionality including new sort options, easier to use layout, and the ability for event promoters to upgrade their events to featured events and add banners for even more promotion.  If you are an event promoter and want to increase your event’s promotion, contact us today!

Looking back, 2010 was a GREAT year on CycleFish, but that’s nothing compared to what we have planned for 2011!

Now on the current stuff…

Congratulations to our two Bike of the Month Winners for January 2011

In the Stock Class, we have streeglide and his Harley Davidson FLH and for the Vintage Class, we have jbgoodner2 and his 1962 Police Special Duo Glide.

To enter your bike, go to the February Bike of the Month forum post.

We are working hard to get all of the 2011 events in our calendar as soon as the information becomes available.  To help you with planning your big trips, we have updated the information and dates for almost all of the Major Motorcycle Events for 2011.

Along with all the new personal users we have on CycleFish, we now have over 400 Business Users here on CycleFish, including these featured users who are helping to support the CycleFish website…

Well it must be almost Christmas, because my lights are up... and I am far from the first one on the block to get the Christmas lights up.  This always seems to be a busy time of the year for everyone including myself, so I'm going to keep the newsletter real short.

I do want to remind everyone one more time to please try to make it to a Toy Run, or one of the other charity or benefit events being held during the holiday season.  Our Motorcycle Event Calendar has plenty of them listed so you should be able to find one in your area.

This would also be a great time to say Thank You to a Soldier.  If you go to this web site, www.LetsSayThanks.com you can pick out a thank you card and Xerox will print it and it will be sent to a soldier that is currently serving in Iraq.

Bike of the Month Winners

I'm not sure about you, but I am sitting here wondering what happened to 2010.  It seems like it was just the beginning of summer, and now we're rolling into Holiday Season again.  We already have our Thanksgiving plans in place, and I have started looking through the garage making sure I know where all the Christmas decorations are. In last month's Newsletter we mentioned a post on Winterizing Your Motorcycle, and we received a lot of feedback stating that many do not winterize their bikes; they keep them ready to roll for those occasions when the roads are clear and the sun is shining.  However even if you're not putting the bike up for the winter, a good suggestion from our friend BailOut is to use the Time Change (both Spring & Fall) as a reminder to give your bike a thorough inspection.  Here are some tips on performing a Basic Motorcycle Inspection.

Another great tradition that starts this time of year is the Toy Runs.  Around the country dealers, charity organizations, motorcycle clubs, and riding groups are holding Toy Runs to collect toys for those a little less fortunate than most of us.  Be sure to check our Motorcycle Event Calendar for a Toy Run in your area.  And if you know of a Toy Run (or any motorcycle event) that is not listed in our calendar, be sure to list it or let us know so we can list it.

Bike of the Month Winners

Congratulations to our two Bike of the Month Winners for November 2010.  For the Stock Class we have afranz with his 2009 Road King Classic; and for the Vintage Class we have Breeze64 with her 1964 FLH Panhead.  Since this was the closest contest ever, we also want to mention BigMike60 who came in second in the Stock Class (by 4 votes) with his 2005 Springer Softail.

As I sit here writing this newsletter, I look outside at the first real rainstorm here in Southern California.  Our indication that summer has officially come to an end.  For some that does not mean the end of riding season, it just means we have to break out the winter gear.  For others it is the sad realization that it is almost time to put the bike up for winter.  If that’s you, be sure to take a look at the forum post on Winterizing Your Motorcycle so you know your bike will be ready to go in the spring.  And for those that still have plenty of riding weather ahead, we still have over 500 rides, runs, and rallies listed in the Event Calendar between now and the end of the year.  Plus we are working hard on filling up the 2011 calendar so you can start making plans now.

Speaking of events… I would like to remind everyone to do your best to support the events in your area that are put on to benefit a worthy cause.  We have spoken to many promoters of charity events about promoting their event for 2011, and far too many are telling me the events may not go on because of low participation.   A few have told me that the money they raised did not even cover the costs to put it on, so little or even no money was provided to the charity.  I know times are tough for many of us, but all I ask is we do what we can to support some of the charity and benefit events in our areas.  If you can’t afford to help out financially, maybe consider offering to donate your time or services to help out.

Bike of the Month Winners

We would like to congratulate our three Bike of the Month Winners for October.  For the Stock Class we have ruger12pk and his 2000 FLSTC Softail; for the Custom Class we have lwrd81 and his 2005 Custom Softail; and for the Vintage Class we have 56PAN and his 1956 Panhead Hydra Glide.

Using the CycleFish Site

As we continue to grow in record numbers, we are hearing from some of our new members that they are having trouble figuring out how to use some of the features on the CycleFish site.  Just a reminder that we do have tutorials for some of the common features in our Video Tutorial section which can be found by clicking “More” on the main menu.  We will also be working on many new tutorials based on the questions we have received from our users…Look for those to be up in the next week or so.

The most popular question we get is “How do I update my profile, and add a profile picture?”  All areas of your profile, including adding a profile picture can be done by  placing your mouse over the small arrow next to “Profile” on the user menu (right under the main menu at the top of the page) and selecting “Edit Profile Information” from the dropdown menu.

New to the CycleFish Store – Ride Bells

We have just added over 30 different styles of ride bells to the CycleFish Store.  These bells may be purchased and delivered to you, or you can purchase one for a friend here on CycleFish.  To purchase a bell for a friend, simply purchase the bell through the store as normal.  Once you have completed your  purchase send a message to the user CycleFish and let us know the username of the person you wish to send the bell to, the user will receive a message letting them know you have gifted them a bell, and will be asked for their shipping information so we can ship the bell directly to them.  See the Full Selection of Ride Bells Here!

Wow, I can't believe that summer is winding down already...it seems like it just got here.  But luckily for most there is still plenty of riding season, and still lots more events coming up.   This year we had more events than ever listed in our Event Calendar, and we still have over 600 events listed for this year, so check the calendar often, and we're sure you'll find something to do.

August was another record month here on CycleFish.  I know you hear me say that almost every month, and that is simply because each month the users and activity just continues to grow.  Not only was it a great month for activity here on the site, but off the site as well.  If you are keeping up with the comments, forums, and photos, you probably saw that more and more our CycleFish members are getting together and making new friends.  And to top it all off, we had a great time with a bunch of CycleFish people at the Buffalo Chip in Sturgis. (more on that below)

CycleFish Bike of the Month Winners

We would like to Congratulate our two September Bike of the Month Winners.  For the Stock Class we have buck58 and his 2001 Heritage Softail; and for the Custom Class we have MigMike60 and his 1958 Panhead Custom.

CycleFish In Sturgis

Laura and I set out on Tuesday for Sturgis, and with the exception of a couple of our friends that we knew would be there, we weren't sure how many CycleFish people were going to show up, and how much fun we would have.  We met up with Richard (harleyman) in Barstow, CA and headed north with no real route, just a basic direction.  DebraJo couldn't get the time off work so Richard will pick her up at the airport in SD on Saturday.  We spent three days changing direction to avoid storms, and finally on Friday morning we pulled into Sturgis.  When we arrived at the Buffalo Chip the people there were just wonderful.  Stephanie (the Chip's Marketing person) came and met us at the gate and directed us to the spot they had sectioned off for the CycleFish Camp.

By early afternoon we had the camp set up, the CycleFish banners flying, and a cold beer in our hands.  Now all we had to do was wait for the rest of the CF people to show up throughout the weekend.  We didn't have to wait long...By Saturday morning they all started rolling in and the party was about to start!  We also had the pleasure of having the guys from the Big Dog forum join us at our camp.  Raywood, a long time CF member is also a member of the Big Dog forum website, and asked if we minded if the Big Dog guys camped with us...and we're glad he did.  They are a great group of riders and many are now members here in CycleFish.  I am not going to try to list all the CycleFish members who camped with us, but by the end of the weekend there were bunch of people in the camp, and other CycleFish people stopping by to say hi.  We did all the normal rally stuff; concerts, vendors, rides, etc...but the most fun we had was just sitting around the camp getting to know each other.   You can see more pictures of the CycleFish group in Sturgis here in my photo album.  There are also lots of pictures posted by others that attended, so be sure to browse through the Photo Section for those.

Upcoming CycleFish Meet & Greets

Southeastern Fall Gathering - Maggie Valley, NC - September 24-26 - A gathering put on by CycleFish members for CycleFish members.  Come out and meet a bunch of great CycleFish people in beautiful Maggie Valley, NC.  We will be incorporating a Helping the Homeless Drive on this event.  Click here for the complete details on the location, accommodations, and the Homeless Drive.

We would like to see more CycleFish Meet & Greets around the country.  They can be organized events, like the ones listed above, or just a simple ride or get together at the local watering hole.  If you would like to plan one in your area, just go to the Meet & Greet Forum and get the ball rolling.

We Need Your Help

As you know Laura and I are working hard to make CycleFish the best biker/motorcycling website on the internet.  But to be totally honest, the advertising dollars are not coming in as fast as we had hoped for, and our resources are getting very low.  We started the site with the intention of always keeping it 100% free for users, and that will never change.  So how can you help as a personal user of the site?  First and foremost everyone can help by continuing to grow the site by telling everyone you know about CycleFish...the bigger the site gets, the better chance we have of getting the advertisers to support our site.  Second, we need business on the site.   Many of the businesses that join CycleFish immediately realize what a great community this is, and that our users - thier customers - spend lots of time here, and the smart business realize the benefits of supporting the site with business account upgrades, and advertising.  So be sure to tell anyone and everyone with a motorcycle related business about CycleFish.  And finally you can help support the site by purchasing the CycleFish logo'd products and account upgrades available.  We don't make a large profit off anything we sell to our users, but every little bit helps.

For those business members reading this, we will be sending out a separate Business Newsletter in the next couple of days outlining the ways you can support our community while getting some great advertising at a very reasonable cost.

So if you haven't stopped by in a while, you need to check back in and see what's been going on.  And don't forget to tell everyone you know about CycleFish, so that our community can continue to grow.

Wow, what a month June has been here at CycleFish...Not only did we have record numbers of visitors and activity on the site, we also had two very successful CycleFish Meet & Greet Parties, one on the West Coast, and one in Central U.S.  Laura and I just couldn't be any more excited about what CycleFish has become, and how it just continues to grow.  Our main objective when we started the site was to provide a place where ALL type bikers and riders could come together, meet, and make friends - real friends.  Well you don't have to spend a whole lot of time here before you realize how great the people here are, and how easy it is to make friends.  And the two recent Meet & Greet events prove that these friendships go far beyond just knowing people here on the site by username.

CycleFish Meet & Greets

West Coast Meet & Greet at the Redwood Run

The first of the two Meet & Greets was held earlier this month at the Redwood Run in Piercy, CA.  Laura and I, along with our good friends Russ & Cindy (of BikerCrap), have been attending the Redwood Run for years - it's one of our favorite rallies!  This year we decided to organize a CycleFish Meet & Greet at the Run for all those CycleFish members here on the West Coast.  As we headed out for Piercy we were not sure what to expect...how many would show?... and would we be able to get a good spot for all the CycleFish campers?  Well when we arrived at the Redwood Run gates a day early, we were greeted with open arms by the Redwood Run Staff.  They had heard about the Meet & Greet and were ready to help us out to make the event the best it could be.  They let us go in the night before the event opened and stake out the spot for all of our CycleFish guests.  So there we were, just Laura and I camping all by ourselves in the vast rally grounds of the Redwood Run...but that didn't last long.

On Friday morning just as the sun came up we got word from the Redwood Run Staff that the gates were about to open, and the mad dash for camping spots by the 1000s who were at the gate was about to start.  As soon as the bikes started rolling past, riders would pull over and ask "is this the CycleFish Camp, I'm user so-and-so", and the CycleFish camp quickly began to fill.  It was so nice to meet in person the people we knew from the site, and of course it was really great to see all of our old friends show up too.  By the time the initial rush was over we had about 20 CycleFish members camping with us, and many more who camped in other spots walking over to introduce themselves.  This continued throughout the weekend, and all in all I think we had about 70 CycleFish members show up and hang out at the camp at one point or another.  It was such a great time hanging out with all the CycleFish members, that we really never even left our camp - with the exception of a couple quick trips to the vendor area, and of course to watch the wet t-shirt contest where all the girls were wearing CycleFish shirts!  We even had one of our CycleFish members represent us in the wet t-shirt contest (but we'll let her tell you about that if she wants to).

The rally went way too fast, and before we knew it it was Sunday morning and everyone was packing up their bikes for the ride home.  We had people leaving for home just a few miles down the road, others heading for WA, MT, OR, AZ, NV, CO, and many places throughout CA.  Laura and I stayed until just about everyone had left to say good-bye and thank each and every one of them for coming out.  It was a great time, and we are already looking forward to next year...and the best news is - There will be a next year.  There was some talk about this being the last Redwood Run after 30+ years, but I heard from the promoters last week and the Redwood Run will go on.

Central U.S. Meet & Greet in Bowling Green, KY

The second CycleFish Meet & Greet was the Central US CycleFish Meet & Greet in Bowling Green, Kentucky.  This one was really special to us because it was organized 100% by a group of CycleFish members, and what a great job they did.  Laura and I were so bummed out that we couldn't make it to this event, and after hearing all the stories and seeing the pictures, we were even more bummed.  Since we weren't there Mike (RexTheRoadDog) was kind enough to send along his account of the event (at least the parts that weren't sworn to never leave KY!)...

In a medium size town in the Southwest Kentucky farm land a small group of internet friends gathered. They came from as far away as West Colorado, upstate New York, Boston, and many places in-between.  All in attendance signed the CycleFish banner sent by Lucky and I counted 24 names. Personally my anticipation of a great time was high as was that of everyone else. To say my vision was exceeded is a serious understatement. IT WAS A FANTASTIC FOUR DAY EVENT. There were no set plans, just people getting to know each other with a few impromptu side trips and a lot of good eatin’!!!.

Extreme and Bon Bon’s site became the defacto gathering place which they graciously shared with the rowdy bunch that almost always was there. It probably had something to do with the meals so fantastically prepared.  MDbikergirl & Steven, Bull Dog, Sky, Adventure Girl, Extreme and Bon Bon supplied most of the Fantastic Meals. And I DO MEAN FANTASTIC!!! The Ettoufee and Boudan (sp) prepared by Extreme and Bon Bon, the jerk chicken and pork prepared by Bulldog were the big hits. Oh, and the coolers were always full of cold water, beer and soda. And a certain someone will remember the White Russians.

This motley crew of internet friends gelled into a cohesive bunch of people who after a few minutes felt as if they were all life-long friends. I know this writer made a lot of good friends. As we slowly broke apart and made our departures there were many tears shed but all agreed to begin planning for the “SECOND Annual Central U.S. CycleFish M&G”. I am already counting the days until that event plus I will surely visit some as I travel near their homes.

I have to echo the unanimous feeling of the attendees.  Thanks to Lucky and Laura for creating CycleFish. This great weekend was made possible because of you two. For those who missed it don’t miss the next.

Your Friend, Mike (RexTheRoadDog)

Upcoming Sturgis Meet & Greet

Sturgis Meet & Greet at the Buffalo Chip (August 10) - We have nailed down all the details and this event will be held at the Pitchfork Fondue & Stage at the Buffalo Chip Campground.  Thanks to our good friend HighRisk at JLHOils  for sponsoring this event and making it possible to create a really great party.  There will be a live band, fully stock bar, and lots of other stuff going on.

Just announced, The Charlie Brechtel Band, a long-time crowd favorite at the Buffalo Chip will be the featured band at the CycleFish Meet & Greet!

Remember to check the Event Listing regularly for updates.  We are also working on a second Meet & Greet Ride during the Sturgis Rally.  Right now we are thinking of doing it on Thursday morning - meeting up at the Full Throttle Saloon around 10:30 for a ride out to Mt Rushmore, and than back to the Full Throttle later that afternoon...more on that to come.

We would like to see more CycleFish Meet & Greets around the country.  They can be organized events, like the ones listed above, or just a simple ride or get together at the local watering hole.  If you would like to plan one in your area, just go to the Meet & Greet Forum and get the ball rolling.

CycleFish Bike of the Month Winners

We would like to Congratulate our two June Bike of the Month Winners... For the Stock Class: TACO and his 1999 H-D Heritage Softail ; and for the Vintage Class: 1941roy and his 1961 Velocette Viper Clubman.

Well here we are in June and just a few days away from the official start of summer.  I hope everyone is getting some nice riding weather, and of course finding the time to ride.  I know Laura and I have been doing lots of riding, mostly local stuff while meeting some of our GREAT CycleFish friends.  But now the events are coming and we are READY to get in some long distance riding, as I am sure many of you are.  To help you find those events, Laura (HDBeech) continues to update the CycleFish Event Calendar daily.   Between Laura's efforts, and our users and event promoters entering events into our calendar, we typically see about 35 to 50 new events added every day.  So be sure to check the calendar often for new events in your area.

We would like to Congratulate our two June Bike of the Month Winners... For the Stock Class: HighRisk, and his 2006 Harley-Davison "KISS" Road King; and for the Custom Class: Bullmoose and his 1969 XLCH Custom Hardtail Springer Bobber.

Wow, I can't believe it's already May!  But that's a good thing because at least everyone is getting some nice riding weather, and there is some type of motorcycle event happening in every area of the country almost every weekend.  We know this for a fact because Laura (HDBeech) is working harder than ever to keep the CycleFish Event Calendar up to date.  Speaking of the event calendar...If you know of events in your area that are not listed in our calendar, please let us know about them.  You can either tell the event organizer about our calendar so they may list their event, list the event in the calendar yourself, or just drop a message with the event details to user EventMan and we will get it listed.

Let's Congratulate our three May Bike of the Month Winners.  For the Stock Class: LadyDragon and her 2000 Road King; for the Chopper/Custom Class Duckster and his 2006 Big Bear Chopper; and for the Vintage Class 1941roy and his 1927 Douglas 350 EW...

CycleFish Still Growing

We just passed the 8,000 member mark and with riding season upon us, we are seeing more and more new members joining CycleFish every day.  Like all of us, they join CycleFish to meet new friends and riding partners, share stories, photos and information, and just want to be a part of the best and fastest growing biker and motorcycle communities on the internet.  So when you see a new member, be sure to take a minute to welcome them to the site!

As I am sure most of you realize, the CycleFish network is not free to maintain and took a lot to develop and get to where it is today.  We rely 100% on motorcycle related business to support the site either through upgrading their business profiles, or directly advertising on the site.  So for those of you who are personal users of the site, be sure to let all of your local motorcycle businesses know about CycleFish.  If you would like some business cards to pass out, just drop a message to user CycleFishAdmin, and we will be happy to send you some.

For those of you who have business profiles, we ask that you take a look at the benefits of upgrading your site, and/or advertising on CycleFish.  In addition to all the benefits you will receive from advertising on one of the fastest growing motorcycle focused websites, you will also be helping to support our great community, which I know our users will show their appreciation for.

CycleFish Meet & Greets

I am probably more excited about the CycleFish Meet & Greets we have coming up, than anything else on the site.  As you know, my primary goal has always been for people to come together, have fun, and make great friends, and it is happening in a big way.

West Coast Meet & Greet at the Redwood Run - The CycleFish party in Redwood is always a good one, but this year will top all.  At last count we have 38 people attending and 8 maybe attending.  I am sure we will see that number continue to climb.

Central US Meet & Greet in Bowling Green KY - This CycleFish only party is being generously coordinated by stephaniebritt, with lots of help from other members. On a personal note...due to circumstances beyond our control, Laura and I will not be able to attend this event as we originally planned.  We are sincerely disappointed that we will not get to meet all of our wonderful CycleFish friends who are attending, but will be thinking of you.

Sturgis CycleFish Meet & Greet at The Buffalo Chip - There may be a change in the location of the event at the Buffalo Chip Campground, so be sure to check the event listing for updates.  In addition, we (Laura & Lucky) will be arriving early to setup up camp and are hoping to have many of our CycleFish members camping in the area with us.

Keep up to date on what is happening with these events on their calendar listings by clicking the event name.  You can also keep up on new Meet & Greets as they pop up, or help start one in your area by going to the CycleFish Meet & Greet forum.

Preferred CycleFish Businesses...

Please remember these businesses, along with the ones you see ads for in the right column, as these are the businesses who support the CycleFish site.  Please take the time to visit their profiles and their businesses to show your appreciation for their support.

We also have some great products from a number of our business members in our CycleFish Mall.  Be sure to visit regularly to see what's been added.  Some of the featured CycleFish brand products are...

CycleFish Patches & Stickers - Let everyone know you are a part of the greatest biker community on the internet!

CycleFish Beer Stick and Cooler - These are great for rallies or any event you need to carry a compact cooler to.

Investment Opportunity! We are currently working on the plans to take CycleFish to the next level including an array of new features, mass advertising campaigns, and an improved infrastructure to handle all of the proposed growth.  To accomplish our goals, we need to acquire some investment capital which we have decided to do via a group of small investments from interested parties.  If you are interesed in investing in the future of CycleFish, please drop a note to Lucky letting me know, and I will provide you additional details.

So if you haven't stopped by in a while, you need to check back in and see what's been going on.  And don't forget to tell everyone you know about CycleFish, so that our community can continue to grow.

Regards,

Lucky & Laura (HDBeech)
